Core Objectives

Carry out skilled MIG welding work including inspection, planning, preparation and cutting, checking/testing; to fabricate, repair, maintain and install metal item, checking/ testing whilst performing the allocated tasks to meet applicable safety standards, targets, criteria and deadlines and to maximise productivity and profitability.

 

Main Tasks/Duties and Responsibilities  

 

 

Day to day responsibilities

understand plans and requirements for each task

– prepare/cut required shapes and weld according to structure plans

– carry out skilled MIG welding work

– inspection, diagnosing problems and carry out appropriate checking/testing

– use grinder to smooth and clean as appropriate prior to and after welding

– effectively operate welding units and equipment to fabricate, repair, maintain and install metal items equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures etc

– inspect work and fill/repair as necessary

– assemble component parts using appropriate hand/small power tools.

identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with applicable codes, law, working practices and health and safety

– clean and maintain all equipment and tools and maintain a clean working area

– carry out planned tasks in accordance with contract requirements

– organise all supplies (materials, tools and equipments) required, liaising with appropriate parties

– carry out tasks to meet applicable safety standards, targets, criteria and deadlines and to maximise productivity and profitability

– carry out tasks within prescribed time limits

– help minimise downtime and wastage

– assist team members on  projects to ensure smooth operations and to ensure targets are met

– assist with relevant costing/supply/budgets

– effectively liaise and communicate and maintain a good relationship with team members,  contractors/suppliers and other stakeholders as required

– maintain accurate records/documentation associated with your work

– report to Line Manager

– immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the organisation and/or its clients/customers to Line Manager

– meet your targets and contribute to those of the team as a whole

– contribute towards the efficient running of the team

– responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls

– adhere to all organisation policies and procedures

– ensure compliance with health and safety and all related legal/statutory regulations, policies and procedures, codes,  professional duties, responsibilities and obligations and insert as applicable

– set an example for team members of commitment, application of skill, work ethics and habits and personal character

 

From time to time you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.

You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your Line Manager. You must contribute towards the smooth running of the organisation generally.

Hours

Your usual hours will be from 8am to 4pm. However you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets.

OR

In view of  the nature of the job you may be required to perform shift work (such as 12 Hour shifts including days, nights and weekends on a rota basis) and you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets.

Insert following if applicable Your job will involve travel to sites within the agreed area. The agreed area is insert e.g. 20 mile radius, county etc

The role is part of the whole organisation team and as such requires you to perform such reasonable tasks that are required, as and when necessary, to maintain, promote, develop and expand the business of our organisation and its interests generally.

Equipment

You are responsible for the equipment provided to you for use in your job role. This means you must ensure that equipment is used in accordance with training provided, all of the organisation’s policies and procedures and the law and using, where applicable, any safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment provided. You are responsible for ensuring that the equipment you use is maintained and can be used/operated at all times.

 

Essential Abilities/ Competencies of this job role

You need

– to have achieved the following qualifications and have completed an appropriate apprenticeship for insert as applicable e

– to hold the following additional certificates insert as applicable

– to hold the following card insert as applicable e.g. CSCS Card, CCNSG  passport

– experience in this type of job role – insert as applicable e.g.   minimum 5 years

– requisite knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the trade

– to demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations

– proven skills in using insert as applicable

– proven ability to work as a team

– demonstrable deadline/time management and task management skills

– high degree of integrity and honesty in all dealings

– to be friendly and approachable

– to understand and deliver good customer service

– good attention to detail

– ability to work under pressure

– full driving licence

Special Working Conditions

You may be expected to work in accordance with the organisation’s overtime policies

The nature of your role will require you to travel within the area that your team covers. However, from time to time you may be expected to travel outside that area as the job role requires.

 

Salary level

C – 25,000 or insert £ per hour
