Employed by Fichtner Consultants on the Clients Consultancy Team for the Duyen Hai 3 1244 MW Power Plant in Vietnam.

Presently working with the Team reviewing Design Proposals, Installation and Commissioning Procedures and implementing changes where required to expedite the Site works in a manner such the Engineering, Installation, Commissioning will be completed safely and on schedule.

Plant consists of 2 x 660 MW Steam Turbines with BOP, 500Kv Switchyard to Distribution system, Emerson ICSS system, Coal Handling Plant, Sea Water Cooling systems, Coal Offloading Harbour and general Admin facilities.

Utilities consist of 500kV network connection, 22KV/6.6 and LV systems for House Loads and BOP.

HV GENERATION ELECTRICAL COMMISSIONING ENGINEER – ELECTRICAL SWITCHBOARD AND GENERATING TESTING ON THE TECHNIP GLOBAL 1200 PIPE LAYING VESSEL

Short term Contract role. Hands On Commissioning Role testing Generator Protection (SYMAP) AVR (Basler DECS 200) & associated Kongsberg ICSS interface with Omicron CMC 256. Converteam Port and Starboard 6.6 kV Switch boards modified to enable 3 Way Split operation of switchboard philosophy. All 6 Generators re commissioned and Switchboard Operation demonstrated to Technip. Calibration of AVR, Generator and Feeder Protection testing, full synchronising, Load Sharing and PMS Testing undertaken.

CLIENTS’ FACILITIES GROUP COMMISSIONING MANAGER
NEWFIELD EXPLORATION LDC, PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA
November 2012 – November 2014

Owners Facilities Group Commissioning Manager, previously the Lead E and I Engineer on the FEED/Contractor Design Approval phase for the Facilities Engineering Group for Newfield Exploration LDC. Design System Feasibility Studies Load Transient and Large Motor Starting continuing through to Approval of the Detailed Design submissions from the Contractor onto overseeing the Installation Procedures cable schedule approval, Compilation of Load lists, Basic Layout and Detailed Layout Drawing Approvals. Installation and Commissioning Procedures, in this case it was most expeditious for myself to Author the Installation and Testing Procedures and develop the final document with the Contractor, due to the Contractor having difficulties in producing a document of acceptable quality. Document Control system utilized was Asai; all MOC documentation was recorded in this system.

Vendor FAT and Main Contractor FAT visits and subsequent reports were undertaken and feedback incorporated into the schedule. As the CM Meetings were held at the commencement and conclusion of each shift to plan and execute in accordance with the Primavera Plan and data fed to the Planning Department.

Managing the Commissioning of the New Build Lu Feng 7/2 Facilities and Drilling Platform was undertaken by myself and my Team in a timely manner, the facility is now in full production and handed over to Operations.

My role was to lead the Commissioning Team through the Installation/Precom/MC to Commissioning and Handover to Operations. Design and Engineer, Implement the design, through to testing and plant integration.

Power system block comprises of 4 Wartsila Diesel/Crude/Gas driven Generator sets, with two machines having the facility to run on Feedstock Gas via a Wartsila Flare Gas Reformer to condition the Feedstock suitable to power the two engines. MV switch board and LV switchboard’s are Siemens as are most of the Power Distribution Transformers with the exception of the Stumberger Step up Transformers and Phase Shift transformers for the Down Hole Pumps.

Onshore testing included running Power Island up to Full Load with Load Banks for Load Acceptance and Load Rejection with temporary cooling medium system to minimize time to First Oil offshore.

Other than Platform Power Distribution, I also oversaw Fire and Gas, HVAC, LQ Facilities, Interface to Drilling Modules, Baker Hughes ESP Power Distribution and Control, Yokagowa ICSS plant control and Drilling Power requirements for the Drilling Process and Top Drive requirements in addition to Telecoms.

The project commenced in Qingdao and Yantai, Topsides fabrication in Qingdao and MDR in Yantai. I have attended most of the key component FAT requirements along with other members of my team.

CLIENTS’ SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
POWER FROM SHORE (PFS) AND PLATFORM HOTEL BP VALHALL REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT, BP NORGE
2010 – 2012

I was been involved with this project for over 3 years, initially in the Heerema Zwijndecht yard in Holland for the FEED/Design Approvals as the Clients Lead Electrical Engineer for the Main ABB Switchboard and 270 kV HVDC Interface and associated Bus Bar and Protection scheme and AC HV Power Distribution network for the BOP and Pumping systems.

Site Installation Supervision of Construction concluding with System Limit Definition for the Completions Department, composing the Pre commissioning and Commissioning Procedures prior to the Offshore Norway element of the project for the Hook Up Commissioning and Brown Field Integration. I was present for the Offshore Heavy lift to oversee the Emergency Power Generation Platform Start up utilizing the Emergency Generators to enable the Saipem Team to commence with the Topsides welding to the jacket structure and the PFS, LQ and SHM around the clock to completion.

My role as the Platform Hotel, Power from Shore System and Solids Handling Module Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer was managing the Team of Electrical Supervisors and Technicians on the new BP Valhall Platform for the hook up and Commissioning of the HVDC Converter Power from Shore Facility from Lista Power Station onshore Norway and the associated Electrical Networks and Emergency Generation. The project also included the powering of neighboring Platforms from the BP Valhall main HV Switchboard to enable the IP and DP platforms to shut down their respective GTG systems and become reliant on the new clean energy from the new HVDC Converter now powers the whole field from the Lista Onshore Convertor Station in Norway.

I left the project post hydrocarbon period as my work was completed and system reliability achieved.

CLIENTS’ LEAD ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
SBM ATLANTA, HOUSTON, ABU DHABI AND DUBAI
2008 – 2010

Clients Lead Electrical Engineer on behalf of the Client/Owner, Topsides on FPSO Frade VLCC conversion project in Houston, USA and UAE. I was employed in the Houston Office working on FEED, Design Approval, composing Installation and Commissioning procedures for the Electrical and Instrumentation Top Sides systems. Providing “System Limit” definitions. System integration and cable interface design requirements for approval by the Chevron Facilities Engineering Group.

On the basis of the above, I undertook a number of FAT Inspections in Europe and USA for Switch boards, Generators, Transformers, UPS and associated system hardware.

I then relocated to Abu Dhabi, to oversee the installation and Testing of the HV and LV Electrical Facilities in the Module Fabrication Yard at Mussaffa Industrial area.

Once Testing in the Yard was completed and signed off, I relocated to Dubai Dry docks for Topsides Integration/Hook Up and Testing of the modules. Commissioning and subsequent handover of the NP LM2500 Gas Turbine Generation Plant and associated ABB HV Switch gear and Areva Transformers through to the Areva LV SWBDs and the Caterpillar Emergency Diesel Generation plant.

I also undertook Pre commissioning/Commissioning of the Load Testing and Startup of the existing Marine Boiler and Steam Turbine Alternator and BOP systems, prior to sail away to Brazil.

CLIENTS’ LEAD ELECTRICAL COMMISSIONING ENGINEER
DOLPHIN ENERGY, QATAR (OXY  DENTAL/TOTAL JV)
2007 – 2008 (1 year +)

Clients Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer at the Dolphin Energy Gas Plant in Ras Laffan Qatar. Total of 14 Substations up to and including the 33 kV interface at the Qatar Electricity Board Karama Substation works undertaken during the Commissioning Phase of the project. Undertook FEED Plant Design/Design Approval with the Main Contractor JGC working in the Facilities Engineering Dept. Mainly Power Generation and Distribution Design, Interface to Substation and Gas Compression and Storage facilities from Construction through to Hydrocarbon Inventory and compression.

CONTRACTORS’ PROJECT CORDINATOR
EHV DISTRIBUTION
2006 – 2007

Employed by Sumitomo Japan as the Project Co ordinator in Bahrain on the Design approval for 5 No’s new 220kV Primary Sub Stations, 3 No’s 220kV Bus Bar extensions to existing Sub Stations entailing Sumitomo Alstom interface engineering packages and associated interbus 66 kV switchboards with additional feeders.

Scope of work included, Site investigation with minimal outage practice, generation of revised interface proposal for approval by ESBI. Compilation of Installation and Testing identifying outage window criteria, testing prior to Energisation, compilation of all test data and formatting test sheet and reference data. Hands on testing of 220 and 66 kV Bus Bar systems with Factory test equipment and factory Test bushings, cables and associated Bus bar protection, Breaker fail, arc extinction and SCADA interface testing to Grid Control Centre.

Bahrain Aluminum Company ALBA Smelter Reduction Pot Line Extension works.

Main Contractor Project Co Ordinator, Engineer acting on behalf of Sumitomo to manage the Contract Scope including arranging Shipping Clearance, Abnormal Load route clearance for large transport loads from the Port to the Plant, offloading plant arrangement and Installation of 220 kV Double Bus Bar Bay Units and Bus Bar sections. Wiring Inter phase testing, Overseeing the HV Cable termination and testing for cables to Generator Transformers and outgoing Circuits To Primary circuits at the HVDC Rectifier Transformers. Configuration of BCU systems and subsequent testing coordination. Compilation of As Built Drawings, procedures and Contract Closure.

COMPANY LEAD ELECTRICAL COMMISSIONING ENGINEER
VOEST ALPINE, CHINA, BRAXIL, TURKEY, INDIA AND UK
2005 – 2006 (2 years +)

Staff Position, Lead Electrical Engineer on various Steel Rolling Mill Projects and Aluminum Plants. Initially employed for the CST Hot Strip Mill, Hot Skin Pass and Cold Mill in Brazil to oversee the commissioning and Start Up of the Electrical Drives Control and Manage the Commissioning of the Water Treatment Plant once the Mill Commissioning workload decreased., I then went on to work from the UK Head Office Design Department and overseas Sites, initially on the Design and FEED content of the Electrical systems of the Erdamir Steel plant relocation of a Steckle Mill from Ohio USA to Turkey and onto the Welspun Plate Mill in Gugurat. I also spent time at the South West Aluminum Rolling Mill for the duration of the Commissioning in Chong Qing, China. As there was a slump in orders, I found myself spending more time in the UK office and not overseas, hence my decision to leave and go to Bahrain.
