Work Experience

Since March 2015 I have been employed by the ‘CANALHOUSE’, which is a world beer bar in Nottingham City Centre during my university studies. As part of my role as bar staff I am required to learn about the large variety of beers which are sold in order to give optimum customer service and provide recommendations. Due to the city centre location, the higher number of customers showcased my ability to thrive under pressure.

During the summer of 2014 I was employed by ‘HITSVILLE’ (a sister bar of ‘Batley Frontier’ under the same management team), a bar in the centre of Batley. I was tasked with readying the bar in time for its initial opening: helping decorate, preparing stock orders and promotional work. I worked as a member of the bar staff in an advisory role, helping the bar and its staff during its preliminary stages. The role provided me with extensive experience in the foundations of bar work and required me to use an updated, iPad-based till system.

I have also previously been employed part-time by ‘BATLEY FRONTIER’, which is a nightclub in the centre of Batley. I worked as a Bar supervisor, gaining the promotion within a year of first employment to the company, initially as bar staff. I held responsibilities such as cash and card management and am trusted to train, nurture and instruct staff. As a bar supervisor it is key that I am ever-dependable to work conscientiously.

I have held a job part-time at ‘MATALAN ltd.’ for three years gaining experience in the retail industry. This provided me valuable attributes such as time management, customer service and task completion skills. I have worked over a range of departments in my tenure there and I feel that the experience I have gained from doing so is valuable.

Skills

I play several instruments; Clarinet (grade 5), Guitar, Drums and have a music theory qualification (grade 5). This shows I have commitment to my hobbies and have achieved qualifications because of this. I also enjoy recording music and music production in my spare time.

I have a bronze certificate of the Duke of Edinburgh award which built my skills of teamwork, communication and preparation as well as critical thinking and a good level of physical fitness.

My hobbies include dancing which I have done for approximately 10 years and am currently in the Bronze Level at, I also played football both for school and for ‘Dewsbury Rangers Old Boys’ team on a weekly basis as captain. This also requires teamwork skills, a high level of physical fitness and leadership.

I have competent computer skills on programmes such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint and am willing to learn plenty of new skills, as I had to when taking my GCSE level ICT dual award.
