UAE Based Mechanical, Piping, Materials Engineer

Working with CCC Underwater Engineering as Techno – Commercial Marine Engineer, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E from March 2008 till date

Nature of work:

• Responsible for the making a list of spare parts for KONGSBERG SEATEX DPS 700 & BANDAK Taut wire, CONVERTEAM DP System, ROLLS ROYCE &, KAWAKSAI Thrusters, WARTSILA & NIIGATA Engines, JOWA Calorifier, INGERSOLLRAND Compressors, SONARDYNE Ranger Pro Acoustics, NATIONAL OILWELL & MCT Cranes, JRC Navigational Systems, CATERPILLAR & YANMAR Emergency Generators, Inflatable Boats, 6 TO 9 man SATURATION SYSTEMS, LP COMPRESSOR, etc. and sourcing out through different vendors in the shortest limited time worldwide. Assuring and checking the spare parts delivered are as per the Materials List raised and the Purchase Order issued.
• Have a wide knowledge of the Standards for Valves as per ASME regulations where the commonly used ones are ASME A 105 / 105 M, ASME B 16.10, ASME B 16.34 and valve test inspections are to refer to codes API – 598 (Valve Inspection and test) & API – 607 (Fire safe testing of soft – seated valves). Other standards that are used for reference are API 6F (Recommended Practices for Fire Test for valves), API 593 (Ductile Iron Plug Valve – Plug Ends), API 594 (Check Valves, Wafer, Wafer lug and Double Flanged Type), API 599 (Metal Plug Valves), API 600 (Steel Gate Valves), API 602 (Compact Design carbon steel Gate, Globe and Check valves), API 603 (Corrosion Resistant Gate Valves), API 604 (Ductile Iron Gate Valves – Flanged Ends), API 608 (Metal Ball Valves), API 609 (Butterfly Valves – Double flanged, Lug and Wafer Type).
• Material of Construction of STEEL is to follow the norms as per the design code, ref. ASME B 31.3/B31.1) Also as per the AISI standards the selection of steel is considered to be either AISI 410 (Chromium Steel), AISI 304 (Austenitic Stainless Steel), AISI 316 (Austenitic Stain Steel).
• Selection of PIPES are referred to the ASTM standards starting from A 53 (Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe, Black and Galvanized) to ASTM A 814 (Cold worked welded austenitic stainless steel pipe) and the Selection of PIPE FITTINGS are referred to the table as per the Dimensional standards stating the different standards for Cast Iron Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings, Threaded fittings, Screwed Fittings. (ASME B 16.1 to ASME B 16.49)The classifications for the list of materials are based on the end connections and types of fittings.
• Responsible to update the vessel with the list of BA charts, publications & IMO signs - MARITIME PROGRESS) with the local suppliers in the Middle East. Also obtain prices from UK, INDIA & CHINA as per the vessel’s location. All the CHARTS & PUBLICATIONS are to be as per SOLAS standards.
• Lifting Gears from CROSBY, LIFTEK, TOYO, GUNNEBO, BRIDON etc. are requested for each job and ordered from the main agents or distributors as per the location required for the project. The Inspection Test Certificates are submitted and verified before delivery to maintain a record which are approved by clients such as MAERSK, TOTAL, ARAMCO, SAIPEM, BUNDUQ, ADMA – OPCO, NPCC.
• Responsible for preparing Service Orders (Annual or Single Occasion) based on the work and the project schedule for the Servicing, Installation, Annual Survey of Machinery, DP System, Crane, Pest Control, FMEA, CMID, Sea Fastening, Sail In & Sail Out Certification.
• Contacts vendors if needed to settle with the Payment Terms, Delivery Terms, Delivery Time, Warranty, Freight Cost, Insurance and makes sure all are included before the final approval is obtained.
• Based on the approval of the Technical and Commercial Bid Analysis (Bid Tab), make Purchase Orders (Local & International) with the necessary details and do maintain a log of the Requisitions raised date till the order is delivered.
• Expedites the delivery of Purchase Orders and do keep a very good relation with all the vendors throughout the world.
• Adheres with the Company Procedures and the Procurements Terms & Conditions as they relate to essential job functions, as well as to the ethical company standards.
• Makes sure all the orders and complete and responsible for archiving of documents(Hard Copies & Soft Copies)
• Responsible for the evaluation of vendors as per the offer submission, prompt clarification of Technical queries, delivery of P.O’s completed within the time stated and the ISO certifications.
• Monthly meetings are conducted within the Team to update the Managers and to be well – organized so that the short comings are noted and rectified.
• Complete participation in attending the Company Audits as well as the External Audits.
• Responsible for keeping the Certificates related to Lifting Gear & Machinery, MSDS for Chemicals & Lubricants, Garbage Disposal Certificates for the Client Visits related to Projects made by ZADCO, TECHNIP, ADCO, NPCC, BUNDUQ, TOTAL, SAIPEM, OXY-QATAR, MAERSK & ARAMCO.
• Maintains a complete record of the Water Supplied, Fuel Supplied, Garbage Disposed daily or project wise for the vessels.
• Thorough with the ASME codes and standards, also confident in providing the technical specifications for the Pumps, Motors, Hydraulic Power Packs, Valves, Winches, Cranes, Fuel, Machinery, Lubricants, Cables, Hoses, Fittings, Computers, Electrical Items as per requisitions.
