Short Bio:

The first highlight of my working life came along with the obtention of my first job, an apprenticeship with a national bus company; the fact that it happened on a field that I loved added a sense of achievement. This also allowed me to attend college and gain qualifications in the industry.
I didn’t have long to wait before a new landmark was added to the first; three years into my four year apprenticeship I was offered a full time mechanic’s position by the company. I jumped at the chance and felt elated.
Four years later the company became private and many jobs were shed amongst which my own.
I wasn’t unemployed for long. I secured a position in a branch of a multinational company. Due to their status and commitments I was soon involved on a variety of product training that taught me about responsibilities other than to the vehicles namely company loyalty and governmental guidelines. When I was asked to join the company’s Guild scheme for Advanced & Master Technicians I felt once again the thrill of achievement.
A momentous landmark took place 5 years later when I was “head-hunted” by another company to fill a supervisory role. I accepted their offer. It gave me the opportunity to increase my knowledge since the package included involvement in office procedure, customer relations, costing, etc. My understanding of the interaction within different areas of a company was very valuable.
Five years later I felt the need for new challenges and took up a position with a multinational company in their transport division; in here I was also teaching apprentices which made me feel that I was giving something back.
But I wasn’t done yet. Seven years on I put myself through Offshore Survival courses with a view to work in the oil industry.
I secured a position with a Service Company carrying out maintenance and repair work in various platforms. The helicopter disaster of August 2013 put paid to this employment: as I was part of a late intake I lost my job to veteran colleagues.
The last company that had employed me offered me the old position anew although they are fully aware that I am only there on a temporary basis until I find a new offshore position.
