I am highly skilled with vast experience in heavy engineering and production processes. My experience encompasses shop floor, supervisory and management roles. I have been heavily involved in equipment manufacturing, inspecting proof building, installation and commissioning. Also 24 hour production breakdown cover (including callout rota’s) preventative maintenance systems and heavy plant installation and commissioning. I am experienced in working to engineering drawings and able to work to fine tolerances. I also possess a sound working knowledge of the HASAW act and have sat on several Health and Safety committees. I also have good man management skills, good inter-personnel communication and promote healthy team working.

Professional Abilities

Hydraulics, both high and low pressure systems, relating valves, pumps, motors, pressure vessels and accumulators. I am conversant with hydraulic control systems and their procedures.

All types of pneumatic operated systems and compressed air lines, their associated equipment and operating systems.

Electric arc furnace water cooling systems, shell panels, water cooled roofs nd ducting, along with primary and secondary water cooling systems, comprising of centrifugal pumps, heat exchangers, cooling fans etc.

Gearboxes and braking systems I also have a good knowledge of diesel engines and able to provide breakdown cover for on-site mobile plant ie. Fork lift trucks, mobile cranes, compressors etc.

The use and repair of all types of cranes, winches and lifting equipment and safe slinging. Installation of all types of heavy machinery, and the commissioning of plant.

All the relevant machine isolation, immobilization procedures and permit to work systems.

COSHH regulations, risk assessments and the HASAW act. Organization of manpower, shift patterns etc. I also have a proven background in working to tight budgets and time deadlines.

My role within this company is to ensure our plant and machinery is manufactured, proof built, delivered installed and commissioned to our specifications and the customers satisfaction. A large percentage of the equipment installed is for steelworks around the world, ie. Rolling mills, castors, shear lines, cooling beds and heavy duty rolling tables. I am involved from the manufacture, inspections, proof building and installation, through to the final commissioning and handover. This also includes daily/weekly planning and progress meetings, the writing of detailed reports and to overcome any installation problems that may arise. Liason with management and shopfloor is a daily occurrence. During my time with this company I spent 4 years in China and have been in Brazil for the last year. At present I have been in Brazil for almost 2 years and 4 years in China previous to that.

My responsibilities for this position here in Eastern China was sole control of a busy 3 shift Maintenance Department serving a high maintenance, high volume production company with 700+ employees. I am working with a diverse array of equipment ranging from large CNC machining centres to boiler plants and steam dissipation pipe work, dust extraction systems and membrane presses. The role comprises of full control of the Engineering staff, all maintenance schedules, the locating and purchasing of spare parts, organizing outside contract labour and the putting in place and operating a planned preventative maintenance system and a plant isolation and safe to work regime. I am also in daily contact with production to ensure production output is met. A lot of this is done through interpreters which is a challenge on its own.

Shift Maintenance Technician (Mechanical)

I operated as a team member alongside other Technicians, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural to provide 24 hr 7 days a week breakdown and preventative maintenance cover. The equipment we maintained was specifically two large Electric Arc steel melting furnaces and all the relative auxiliary equipment, hydraulics and pneumatics, also large Billet grinding machines, loading and unloading tables and Billet Shot blasting machines. I did much of the organizing of my own workload and the placing orders for spare parts. I was also involved in the planning for the annual maintenance shutdown periods.

In this position I was responsible for a large section of Engineering employees in a busy around the clock maintenance department, encompassing both preventative maintenance and breakdown situations on a wide variety of mechanical steelworks plant ie. Heavy Forging equipment, 3000 ton & 1500 ton open die forging presses, Multi-hammers, Drop forging hammers, Machining centres, Re- heating furnaces, Compressors, Overhead cranes up to 400 ton, Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems. I was also responsible for all the Engineering Departments Health and Safety matters. I took control of the purchasing and manufacturing of all spare parts, organized Maintenance programmes and manpower for annual shutdown periods, my position also entailed the supervision of the installation and commissioning of new development plant.

Reason for Leaving. Many impending redundancies and the above vacancy became available.

It was my own small contract company, which was involved in Mechanical Maintenance and Plant Installations including heavy machine installation and commissioning, pipe work installations and the installation of conveyor systems, roller tables etc. I was also heavily involved in jig building and design, working to tight contract deadlines and the pricing of said contracts.
