Position: Control Systems Engineer (Contract)

Duties: Returned to Repsol Oil Ltd., under the same Job title and position. The working responsibilities remain the same. However, more commissioning was undertaken due to the Power Generation system which was upgraded from the ABB AC450 Control system to AC800xA. This included equipment and control network upgrade of which I was involved in the FEED and overseen the EPC of the project.

Position: Project Engineer (Contract)

Duties: As part of the BP/ABB Valhall Re-development Project team, mainly concerned with SAS (Safety and Automation System) of the ESD and Fire/Gas upgrade on Green Field locations. This upgrade is done using the SafeGuard 400™ control system. Also responsible for the generation of work-packs and documentation defined by the NORSOK standard.

Position: Control Systems Engineer (Contract)

Duties: Due to increased oil production, was asked to return to same position as in August 1998 to February 2001. Additional hardware upgrades have been introduced such as the AC800 system. A more compact system which runs on the Process Portal A platform. Scope of work covers 6 Gas and Oil Separation plants, with plans for two more in 2011. Commissioning of Nuevo Pignone Gas Compressors using GE Fenuc HMI and PLC’s.

Duties: Amata 60MW CCPP Turnkey EPC delivery of the complete power plant. Conceptual design and preparation of the EPC bid document, bid evaluation and assistance during contract negotiations. Responsible for the engineering of the DCS system, selection of the suppliers, review of the detailed design by the suppliers and supervision of erection and commissioning.

Duties: Along with the acceptance test of the Westinghouse OVATION DCS, control modification, design and configuration of the system to accept two GE Frame 7 turbines controlled by the Mark VI system. Integrating the GE Mark VI to the Ovation DCS system. Additional work to incorporate Boiler and Steam Turbines. Total power output in the region of 300 MW.

 

June 2001 – November 2001

Position: DCS Start-up Engineer (Contract)

Duties: Reconfiguring the existing WDPF II DCS to customer’s requirements. Involved modifications to the original design with additional work specified by Black and Veach. Plant consisted of two SOLAR Turbines (Taurus) and two Auxiliary boilers, supplying power to the University California, San Francisco.

Westinghouse WDPF II 8.6 on the SOLARIS 2.5 platform.

Duties: Providing support to the operation division along with design and software modifications on a Gas and Oil separation plant based at El Sharara, Ubari, Southern Libya. The control system is an ABB MasterView 850 incorporating the AC450/410 controllers.

Maintenance and fault diagnosis by way ofthe P14 control system. Configuring and modifying the POS 25 [Process Operating System] to customer requirements.

Duties: Control and commissioning of plant automation based Mitsubishi MIDAS 8000 DDC (Direct Digital Control) System, which provides monitoring and control of our GT’s, four HRB’s, two ST’s and the Data Acquisition System. The IDOL (Intelligent DDC Oriented Language) maintenance tool, which is part of the MIDAS system, enables me to monitor and reconfigure the control logic and its parameters. Training of the local C & I Engineers is also in my scope of work.

Duties: Test and commission the latest in the family of Frame 9F Gas Turbines, using the Mark V (Speedtronic) and Bailey Infi 90 DCS. Ensuring the received and transmitted signals via the MODbus serial link are correct and functioning to the client’s specification.

Duties: Using and configuring the Westinghouse DCS system to commission both Gas Turbines -Mark V (Speedtronic) & Boilers, plus Steam Turbine and associated plant at a 700MW CCGT Power Station in Keadby. Liaison with vendors on current and future design changes. Dynamic tuning of control loops using methods based on the ‘Ziegler-Nochols Criteria’. Configuration of Allen Bradley PLC’s to the DCS.

Duties: Testing and analysis of the Westinghouse PCS and DCS systems to strict procedures, which utilise the WestNet, Ethernet and Fibre optic highways. Involvement in writing a datagramme programme in ‘C’, under the UNIX/SOLARIS platforms, which was used by the maintenance and control personnel on the SUN workstations. I also used OPEN Windows as an aid in analysing the information highways.
