Served 5 year mechanical apprenticeship which included day release at college to obtain city and guilds in mechanical craft studies 3 parts,during my apprenticeship I worked on various machines lathes,milling machines,drilling machines,also worked stripping and building sulzer and English electric diesel engines which included heavy lifts in and out of locomotives alignining the engines carry out coupling of all pipework,pumps,crankshaft deflections,fitting of generators in crewe railway works,on completion of my apprenticeship I moved to a locomotive maintenance depot in crewe where I worked on maintenance and overhauling various diesel engines including.sulzer,mirlees,English electric,cummings,general motors,I progressed to ultra sonic inspector testing cylinder head studs,locomotive and rolling stock axles,also dye penetrant testing,I them became a maintenance supervisor in charge of a team of engineers responsible for everyday running of the depot planning workload and inspecting work carried out to satisfactory standard,this also incuded heavy lifting using overhead cranes and telescopic rail cranes,also involved load bank and commissioning testing I then became a rerailing supervisor which incuded attending rail crashes lifting locomotives and rolling stock in volved in derailments and crashes,I then became engineer working on the royal train which involved extensive travel around the uk escorting the royal family ensuring the locomotives pulling the train ran smoothly and efficiently reporting to the chief operating engineer on board the train
