EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Deputy General Manager-Procurement, Karachi Electric Supply Company Ltd. Dec 2010 – Current

Karachi Electric Supply Company is a vertically integrated utility company with 6 Power Plants of total capacity of 1850 MW, 34 grid stations, 28 integrated business centers and a total of more than 2.2 million commercial, residential and industrial consumers. The total revenue is more than Rs. 180 billion annually and the spent handled by the supply chain department is more than Rs 10 billion.

I am responsible for procurement of goods and services of more than Rs 4.2 billion on annual basis. Procurement portfolio caters to a large internal customer based. The main types of buying include engineering spares for plant maintenance, commodities related to electricity distribution network, spares related to transmission including SCADA system, technology buying including all requirement to support the IT infrastructure and customer services of the company, commodities such as chemicals, industrial gases, fuels & lubricants to ensure smooth operation of plant, instrumentation equipments and lab services for various technical needs, , IT. I am also leading several key outsourcing projects such as bill distributions services, IT helpdesk & infrastructure outsourcing services and pharmacy outsourcing services.

Key achievements include:-

• Have initiated and executed outsourcing of bill distribution contract for entire customer base of KESC. For this 11 contracts were awarded to distribute more than 2.2 millions bills per month. By outsourcing the bill distribution KESC can now concentrate more on core issues. Other benefits are savings of more than Rs.150 million on annual basis and increased efficiency in bill distribution.

• By actively monitoring cable & conductor related parameters such as LME index and carryout fierce negotiations have saved more than Rs. 35 million till date.

• Have successfully developed the strategy for level 1 & level 2 IT helpdesk outsourcing project from a commercial standpoint, later successfully reduced the contract price to Rs. 36 million from Rs. 57.5 million after post bid negotiations with the lowest bidder. This has resulted in tangible savings of Rs. 21.5 million and permanent head count reduction of 18 staff.

• Saved more than Rs. 120 million through target costing methodology in technology buying with IBM, Microsoft & Oracle

• Have strategically negotiated the smart grid solution contract, as a result the total price was reduced by US$ 1.2 million.

• Have created BPO & RRCs for various repetitive item categories to reduce the cost of buying and streamline process efficiency.

Supply Chain Manager, ICI Pakistan Limited (Part of AkzoNobel Group) Nov 2009 –Nov 2010

Was heading the supply chain department for the Chemical Business of the company and reporting to the Business Head-Vice President of the Company.

• Was responsible for all operational & strategic decisions in the Supply Chain domain which includes functions such as procurement, warehousing, trade imports & exports, toll manufacturing, reverse toll manufacturing, transportation, freight forwarding and production planning. Was responsible for total yearly business spent of more than US$ 24 million.

• Was responsible for managing 15 management staff and 40 contractual staff, including 5 direct reports.

• Was responsible for importing trading goods under agency agreements for 10 principals globally with well known names as Lucite, Huntsman, Johnson Matthey, National Starch & Johnson Diversey.

• Closely collaborated with the executive team which included the business head, business manager, human resource manager, finance manager and the plant manager to deliver business targets in terms of EBITDA, savings, HSE, sustainability, corporate governance and growth.

• Was responsible to achieve and monitor key departmental performance targets such as stock turns, OTIF, procurement savings, effective production planning, safe operations of warehousing & distribution.

• Was responsible to manage the tolling & warehousing agreements of ICI Pakistan with Henkel and Nalco in Pakistan.

• Was part of the supply chain network forum which includes supply chain managers for all five ICI businesses, corporate service manager and company IT manager.

Key achievements include:-

• Successfully carried out a re-organization exercise by which one permanent position was eliminated, two individuals got promoted and 4 individuals were transferred, the total permanent head count was reduced by one.

• Successfully renegotiated the Lahore warehouse rental lease resulting in savings of more than Rs. 2 million.

• Successfully passed the Phillip Morris quality & operations audit which enabled the business to increase revenue in terms of increase in toll manufacturing requirements by Henkel to produce food grade adhesives in ICI facilities. This audit was a major milestone for Henkel Pakistan and Country Manager Henkel Pakistan greatly appreciated the efforts put in before the audit.

• Developed local supply sources for a key raw material VAM which helped in reducing cash tied in, improved lead cycle and reduced total cost of buying.

Purchase Manager, Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited Feb 2008 –Nov 2009

As purchase manager successfully managed a team of 6 people and handled a spent of more than US$ 35 million and was responsible for the following:

• Project related all local procurement for Engro’s US$ 1 billion 1.3 MT urea fertilizer expansion project and US $ 220 million Engro Energy Limited-217 MW Power Plan.

• Direct and indirect procurement related to Engro Zarkhez plant at Port Qasim Karachi.

• Local procurement related to the head offices of Engro Chemicals, Engro Energy and Engro Foods

• Local procurement related to marketing division- this includes purchasing for more than 15 locations.

Key achievements include:-

• Successfully negotiated prices for bulk procurement as well as ensured that the supply of critical items including spares and production related items such as chemicals. This resulted in savings of more than US $1 million in the total tenure.

• Completed two Six Sigma Green belt projects and successfully qualified the Six Sigma Green Belt Exam.

• Successfully delivered all local procurement related to the projects executed in time with zero impact on project due to non delivery of goods & services due to procurement. Was appreciated by the Engro Chemical Enven project team for successfully fulfilling the procurement needs during the most critical time frame of the project.

• Reduced the cost of packaging material by 12% for Zingro product by successfully exploring and developing alternate sources of procurement.

• Six Sigma Black Belt Project was declared the best black belt project for 2009-2010.

Sector Specialist-PSCM, BP May 2007-Feb 2008

• Managed a small team of people providing a full range of procurement services to Business Office Support Sector which comprises of 13 departments and includes Human Resources, Finance, HSE, Administration, Legal, Aviation, PSCM, IT & transport.

• Executed procurement activities related to equipment, material and services. This includes developing procurement strategies, prequalification, tender list development, issue of enquiry documents, receipt and analysis of tenders, supplier clarification & negotiations, preparation and award of purchase orders, expediting and other post order administration as necessary and in accordance with BP procurement and contracts policies.

• Administered 117 Blanket Purchase Orders and more than 50 contracts for the various departments. Was responsible to handle a total spent of more than US$ 13 million.

• Actively involved in developing strategic agreements for major spends and recurring purchases.

Key achievements include:-

• Was awarded two Special Recognition Awards in BP Pakistan as recognition of efforts put in various assignments.

Imports & Shipping Officer, Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited Aug 2005 – Apr 2007

• Was responsible to manage a team of 5 people and various contractors.

• Was responsible from receiving PRs to delivery of these imported items to Dherki plant site in Sindh Pakistan

• Handled all direct plant imports with a total spent of more than 6 million dollars. The inventory requirements consisted of 24,000 distinct items including raw material, operations & maintenance spares, safety items, instrumentation & control spares, turbine spares. The total split was 40% OEM related items and 60% general import items.

Key achievement include:-

• Saved a total of more than Rs. 10 million for the company on various purchases during the tenure in Imports and Shipping Section.

• Had implemented various purchasing strategies to reduce the average purchase requisition to purchase order cycle time from 54 days to 30 days.

• Had initiated a freight forwarding option for the company to benefit from cheaper freight, better control and faster delivery time.

• Had successfully negotiated payment terms with five main foreign vendors to work on payment against shipping documents rather than working on letter of credit. The estimated projected savings from this negotiation was around 1.8 million rupees annually.

Operations head for the knits dyeing unit, managed a team of 8 management employees and 40 plus staff. Was responsible for all activities of the plant including procurement, planning, maintenance, operations, quality assurance, finance & commercial sales.

• Successfully increased the processing from 30,000 Kg/month of commercial fabric dyeing to 76,000 Kg (highest average processing/month) in a period of eight months by aggressively promoting commercial dyeing and improving internal processes.
