Shared Services and Outsourcing
PWC were engaged to support a leading global technology infrastructure vendor in outsourcing core business activities from across EMEA region of the business.

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Supported the Transition team migrate core business activities to the outsourcing partner; chairing daily performance calls, managing open issues to conclusion and coordinating escalations where necessary

• Actively managed dependencies between client and the outsourcing partner and other transformation programmes

• Engaged with senior leadership to draft a “lessons learned” document for future outsourcing projects

• Identified and supported in developing further sell-on work for the firm

Strategic Management Information & Analytics
PWC were commissioned to recommend a new set of monthly performance measures that would be aligned with the client’s revised strategic objectives and vision.

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Delivered a maturity assessment of the existing performance measures to determine how well aligned they were to the new strategic objectives

• Proposed a new set of strategically aligned performance measures, guided by leading practice and the firm’s vision, also proposed reporting frequency and provisional performance targets

• Led the design of a new monthly MI reporting framework / structure for the Exec board to be able to review performance and inform effective decision making

Target operating model
PWC were engaged to deliver a group-wide Reference Data Strategy for a leading global bank to enhance reporting capabilities, optimise operational and financial performance and improve customer experience.

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Engaged with senior stakeholders from across the bank to propose a set of strategic business requirements to inform the design of the new data strategy

• Reviewed existing change programmes and how they aligned with Reference Data Strategy project so that management can effectively prioritise these initiatives

Minimum capital requirements (ICAAP)

PwC supported an Investment Management Fund in determining a minimum capital requirement in line with regulation (ICAAP).

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Carried out market research on recent penalties levied as a result of inadequate capital requirements. This analysis presented management with a view on the fund’s operational risk exposure based on its current investment portfolio and marketing activities

• Enhanced a mathematical model to estimate what adequate capital requirements might look like for them

• Delivered a report to management which summarised the key findings and a recommendation on what the fund’s minimum capital requirement could be

Strategic business transformation

Experience

1: PWC were invited to carry out a diagnostic to identify if capacity can be released back into the business as a result of productivity improvements. The client was a loyalty partner for a major airline.

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Interviewed senior stakeholders from across the business to understand current ways of working; including Commercial, Customer and Marketing team leads

• Mapped out the key x-functional business flows and highlighted existing dependencies. This helped to understand the business drivers and draft a proposed view of the current operating model

• Drafted a proposed set of leading performance measures which the business can influence to improve margins

• Supported in the development of the business case for transformation. This resulted in PwC securing the advisory work

2: PWC were commissioned to deliver strategic operational change to transform the nature of the client relationship management from ‘relationship’ to ‘partnership’ in the Corporate Cards function at a leading global bank. This would drive revenue (and margin) for both the bank and its clients

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Co-ran senior leadership workshops to define vision statement and draft cascade plan across wider organization

• Delivered, as part of the engagement team, an 18% increase in time spent on revenue generating activities for the in-scope teams

• Facilitated problem solving workshops using root cause analysis and other methodologies alongside delivering client training sessions

• Coached senior staff on how to implement the principles that drive continuous performance improvement as part of PwC’s transfer of capabilities to Senior Management

Procurement sourcing

PwC supported the client in re-tendering the provision of advice & advocacy services within a London borough.

Responsibilities and achievements:

• Concluded the ‘as-is’ assessment for the of provision of these services

• Defined a framework to carry out the ‘gap-analysis’ to understand supply/demand forces in the borough

• Presented the findings back to the Council leadership to inform future spending decisions
