• Provide input into the development of company and site policies, programs, procedures, and positions on environment, health and safety related regulatory issues, templates/forms for frontline staff, manuals, and the strategic direction of environment, health, safety and quality management systems (Integrated Management System, “IMS”).

• Provide management and staff with advice, clear direction, and tangible support on the application of both voluntary and mandatory regulatory compliance tools and systems.

• Perform site environmental risk assessments to identify existing or potential hazards, determine corrective or preventive actions, and provide the necessary follow-up.

• Provide guidance and technical support on environment, health and safety related regulatory inspections, interprets regulatory requirements (legislation, orders, Certificate(s) of Approval, Environmental Compliance Approvals), and liaises with regulators (e.g. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change), as required.

• Provide and/or support training to Section management and frontline staff regarding their environmental compliance, emergency response and due diligence responsibilities.

• Plan audits, reviews pre-audit material, prepares audit protocols, conducts self-assessments and peer audits, prepares internal audit reports and documents findings, identifies deficiencies, and makes recommendations on areas of improvement to the Integrated Management System, (“IMS”) and related programs, operations, procedures and practices.

• Prepares analytical reports including regular reports on compliance issues and performance, internal audit reports, risk management plans, and ad hoc management requests.

• Advises management where frontline staff may be endangering themselves, others, or the environment. Also identifies compliance and related performance issues for the Division Management, including making recommendations for corrective actions.

• Provide emergency or incident (such as a spills or an occupational injury) response in the form of emergency response planning and testing; root cause investigations; assessing compliance and recommending a course of action to bring about compliance; liaising with regulators as appropriate; supporting implementation of recommended compliance plans; and other emergency needs as may be requested by site management or as required as part of emergency response plans.

• Establishes and maintains professional and constructive relations with peers, company staff and management, Ministry of Labor and Ministry of the Environment regulators, and other key stakeholders.

• Promote a risk management culture. Utilizes standardized risk identification and ranking tools and promotes a consistent approach to risk management.

• Actively promote and build a positive safety culture among management, employees and Contractors.
