PROFILE

I am a competent and articulate senior Medical Laboratory Assistant.

I have organisational and time management skills. I am computer literate and able to enter patient details and result data on various databases. I am able to work unsupervised and as part of a team.

I have knowledge of health and safety in the pathology laboratory, COSHH and the use of personal protective clothing. I am reliable and able to follow standard operating procedures and instructions as and when given.

I decided to do voluntary work with Alpha Health Diagnostic Centre and study for the NVQ LATA level 2 and level 3, these awards have enabled me to show competence in the following areas. Sample receiving, sorting and labelling, this also includes checking samples against the patient’s details on request forms.

I possess the knowledge of identifying the destination of the various specimens to the appropriate departments which include: Haematology, Biochemistry, Virology, Microbiology, Blood transfusion and Histology.

I am also familiar with centrifugation of biochemistry samples using standard centrifuge and micropipettes.

I know the use of the Menarini haematology analyser for FBC and use of the ESR machine and the disposal of waste in the appropriate containers and bags.

I know how to carry out manual techniques including the use of the immunocap kit to carry out allergy tests for patients.

I have been trained to use the biochemistry analyser to run routine biochemistry. I am aware of quality assurance and have been involved in the daily maintenance of the haematology and immunology analysers and also carrying out the quality assurance check using manufacturer’s control material.
