o Supervised all subcontractors applying architectural finishes involving masonry and rendering work, gypsum board, suspended ceiling, raised floor and door installations, ceramic and stone tiling, fire sealant and paint applications.

o Coordination of civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services interfacing with architectural finishes.

o Oversaw correspondence and approved subcontractor’s requests for payment

Rotana Hotel, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE – Site Engineer

o Directed the concrete construction of the 350 hotel rooms utilizing the Outinard Tunneling Method. Metal shuttering and multiple space heaters allowed us to pour four guest rooms and a section of the corridor on a daily basis.

o Organized and supervised the positioning of form-work, placement of steel reinforcement within the walls and slab, and installation of MEP services.

o Coordination of all disciplines as well as the conduction of inspections with the consultants at designated intervals each day.

o We had to maintain a tight schedule to complete the Rotana Hotel in time for the Formula One Race. After weeks of workdays extending into the morning hours, we were able to synchronize the entire 70 person crew so as to do our work within the workday and finish the job with time to spare.

Athens, Greece – Site Architect / Real Estate Developer

Between 2001 and 2008 I developed several residential projects of reinforced concrete:

o Accountable for land acquisition, financing, permits, construction, sales and leasing.

o Directed excavation and concreting operations, basement waterproofing, masonry, electrical, plumbing and plastering works. Selection and supervision of ceramic and stone tiling, wood flooring, installation of aluminum windows and doors, elevators, heating systems and solar panels, paint application and landscaping.

o It was rewarding to see a project from inception to the end user. Careful contractor selection and clear contractual agreements made for a smooth construction phase.

During the period of 1991 to 2001 I managed the design of residential and commercial spaces as a private practice and in association with other architects. Most notable was the production of construction drawings for the following projects:

o Four Seasons Resort, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, 12,000 sq.m. consisting of low-rise 70 sq.m., 265 sq.m. and 500 sq.m. units in association with C. Charitakis, Architect.

o Lefkada Marina Complex, 70,000 sq.m., in association with C. Charitakis, Architect.

o Athens Labor Union, 4200 sq.m. with CCS Meletitiki Ltd.

Campus Arts and Sciences, Ziridis Educational Organization, Athens

o Employed as an Instructor (part-time) with the Department of Design from 9/1994 to 6/2002. I taught classes of ten to thirty students on design subjects ranging from Studio, Architectural History, Drawing, Structures and Mechanical Systems.

o Served as Department Head (part-time) from 9/1999 to 6/2002. I reviewed the design curriculum, structured course outlines and implemented the program.

o I came to enjoy the privilege of being able to pass on my experiences to a younger generation. Over a course of several semesters each instructor has the ability to help shape a young adults career, so I was pleased to learn of the numerous students that went on to study architecture or other design related fields.

The Construction Specifications Institute, Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Technical Manager responsible for developing and administering CSI Programs.

o Duties involved establishing production schedules and coordinating work of technical researchers, performing financial planning and preparation of marketing plans.

o Of most significance was the monitoring of program and document development by committees supported by a membership of construction industry professionals.

o During my tenure I streamlined production and communication between staff and the association’s membership. Our members volunteered their expertise to better the construction industry so we had to be efficient in our transactions.

o Though my computer skills were quite basic, I organized members that were computer proficient on a committee whose purpose was to configure the first electronic format of construction related information produced by the association.

6/1985 – 11/1989
DN Coupard Architects, AIA, Maryland, USA

As a Designer and Project Architect I managed the development and production of design and construction documents from schematics to tendering. Our projects were speculative office buildings for developers operating in the Maryland and Virginia area. Of note are the following projects:

o Commerce Center, General Electric Facility, Reston, Virginia.

The 31,000 sq.m. project consisted of green glass curtain wall with granular vertical and horizontal elements forming underlying layers, as if to peel back the outermost architectural skin and reveal the structure behind. The discipline of the upper levels was in direct contrast to the organic layout of the ground level. The playfulness of the building at pedestrian level made for a more positive experience as people approached their place of work – Project Designer

o Overlook Executive Park, Baltimore, Md., six level precast concrete and glass curtain wall office building consisting of 10,985 sq.m. – Project Architect

o Christiana Executive Campus, New Castle, Del., four level precast concrete office building consisting of 8,365 sq.m. – Project Architect
