Liaising with SCADA teams on and offshore (Rigs) to rectify data throughput issues. Mainly via OPC but back ends were mainly a mix of Exaquantum and PHD.

Conversion of RTAP based tags prior to RTAP decommission.

Creation of HA systems following Shell PI-RA documentation. Upgraded PI system at Gabon (Africa) to follow Shells L3-L4 architecture.

Research Officer: Powertechnology Centre, Powergen/Eon-UK

Eon is the world’s largest investor owned energy utility with seventy-thousand employees worldwide and an annual turnover in the tens of billions of pounds.

Powertechnology is the UK science and engineering support department of Eon-UK which contains a mix of scientists/technologists and engineers from all subject areas. Research officer was the generic title of any such specialist.

OSI-PI system development and support 2008-June 2009

Currently the PI servers help track the health of the power plant but nothing reports on the status of the servers/interfaces and firewalls of the PI system itself.

 Devised value added enhancements to Eon-UK’s portfolio of PI based solutions.

 Planned and coordinated the implementation of a country wide PI server health monitoring system.

 The overall system will contact PI support engineers via email/text in the event of a problem.

PROATES Plant Modeler
2006-2008

PROATES is a physics based power plant thermodynamics package which uses a OSI-PI historian as its plant data repository and PI-ProcessBook as a user interface builder.

 Created sections of the performance model for Enfield power station.

 Developed user interface screens for users at several power stations.

Power Station Plant Data Integration
2002 – 2006

Technology lead on a project that championed a more integrated approach to power plant operational data storage and retrieval.

 Investigated and trialled several plant data historians, then implemented an in house historian based on the Cutlass DCS logging into Microsoft SQL Server.

 Made presentation to directors and senior management recommending that the company policy be to use PI.

 Installed, configured and provided training for an OSI-PI plant historian at pilot site. Eon-UK now have twenty-three PI servers handling power station operations data for the entire UK fleet.

GNOCIS
1997-2002

A neural network based optimisation system devised to improve station performance by learning how the plant operates.

 Devised and built user interfaces. Technical lead in data acquisition aspects of project. Successful implementations in UK, USA and China.

Over this period have also provided expert input into a variety of other projects and provided new technology recommendations in the following areas:- Virtual Reality, Wireless LAN performance and security, Data Visualisation.

Non technical roles include:-

Safety Liaison Officer. Focal point for department safety issues; inspections and audits.
