Worked in the oil & gas industry from the age of 16, gaining an apprenticeship as an Electronic Technician. Studies were completed either day release or evening class, on completion decided to worked abroad travelling to Norway, Holland, France, Italy, Manchester, London, Newcastle, Asian and UAE. Since returning to Aberdeen employment roles have been mainly senior having worked as a Lead Engineer, Technical Authority and a Project Manager.

Duties in these roles were acting company representative; managing upstream projects which covered: FEED; Design, Installation, Completions; Commissioning; Decommissioning; maintenance upgrades and Project Close-Out. Other duties performed consisted of: reviewing 3rd party contractors design work ensuring designs are carried out to the required standards and specifications; ensuring plans, schedules, deliverables and production targets for the projects are consistent; carrying out 3rd party visits to assess progress and quality; developing 3rd party commissioning schedules; creating CTRs for each stage of the projects life cycle and following up on cost and schedules with senior management.

Junior Electronics Technician, Wood Group Industrial Controls

During my time with ITeC, I obtained a work placement with Wood Group Industrial Controls, which lasted for 8 weeks. My duties were: assembly, wire looming, cable lacing, manufacturing industrial printed circuit boards and fault finding. While there I also did one week in – house training of soldering and de-soldering techniques.

Dissertation: – My dissertation topic look at different training issues and examines whether Aibel benefited from training their staff. The report also provides the organisation with solutions on how they can improve their current training strategy so that they can achieve the necessary core competencies needed to compete successfully in the future.

Project: – During the BSc (Eng) I undertook a project to design and manufacture a data acquisition system to monitor a motor cycle’s performance under racing conditions. The data acquisition system monitored speed, positioning of the motor cycle, braking, acceleration gear change and stability of the motor cycle.
