August 2012 – date Lead Geotechnical Engineer, BP, UK

BP is Client organization and one of the world’s leading international oil and gas companies.

Working within the Upstream Engineering Centre (UEC), I provide geotechnical assurance to BP Major Projects (in particular Shah Deniz Phase 2 project for both onshore and offshore geotechnical engineering) and lead the projects at various stages from concept to execute. In particular my role in UEC involves:

• Preparation of BP technical practices and active engagement in industry and BP geotechnical community of practice to maintain discipline health;

• Geotechnical support to the project and endorsement of site selection, site preparation works and foundation option selection;

• Review and approval of Designer’s detailed design of foundations (both onshore and offshore) and other geotechnical elements including earthworks;

• Provision of assurance in advanced areas including seismic design (reviewing findings of PSHA are translated correctly into detailed design by the Designer and in accordance with performance requirements of different structures), tank foundation design (API 650 / 620 & Eurocodes) including Dynamic Soil Structure Interaction (DSSI) and earthwork and foundation design in challenging soils including very soft and collapsing ground;

• Assisting projects to capture bigger geotechnical risks, identifying mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce these risks to tolerable level and progress the project through various stage gate reviews.

• Managing work of third party consultants including finance management (agreeing scope of work, setting up contracts, approval of invoices and management of CTRs). Review and approval of their deliverables (e.g. desk study reports, geotechnical investigations and detailed design reports etc.);

• Provision of site support by carrying out site visits to resolve geotechnical (and civil) issues, review and approval of contractor’s Method Statements & ITP’s, providing assurance that the site works comply with specifications and QA/QC requirements and setting up a culture of HSSE on site;

• Review of geotechnical site investigations work scope and scheduling laboratory testing;

• Technical review of design and drivability assessment of SD2 offshore jacket piles and foundation design of subsea structures in challenging soft subsea soils.

August 2007 – August 2012 Senior Offshore Geotechnical Engineer, Technip, UK

Technip is one of the major players in full-service engineering and construction services in oil and gas industry. My role in Technip as geotechnical engineer involved:

• Design of offshore foundations including gravity bases, driven and suction piles for various offshore applications (pipeline initiation, mooring anchors, manifolds, riser bases & restraint systems, protection structures, platforms etc.) using API/DNV codes;

• Advanced foundation design of subsea structures under cyclic, seismic and sustained loads;

• Design of drag embedment anchors;

• Interpretation of offshore geotechnical data and assessment of basic and advanced geotechnical parameters exercising appropriate degree of engineering due diligence;

• Design reviews (both in-house and third party designs) of geotechnical elements of various subsea structures;

• Design of temporary supports on softer seabeds e.g. rock berms for temporary subsea operations;

• Pipeline-soil interaction analysis and recommendations of geotechnical parameters for upheaval buckling (UHB) design of rigid subsea pipelines;

• Trenching risks and engineering analyses of the rigid and flexible pipelines using ploughs and jetting tools including rigid pipelines stress analysis during trenching, consolidation of trenching tools performance data for future tenders;
