WORK HISTORY

• May 2013 to Present:
Saud Consult – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Position: Senior Structural Engineer – Checking and Approval Engineer – (Project office)

Projects include but are not limited to:

– King Saud University Sports Campus (SR 360m (approx. £60m)) – The sports campus being a centre for international events as well as college use, includes a 7,000 seat indoor athletics arena, gymnasium, student facilities and 50m & 25m Olympic size swimming pools, all to FINA standard. The arena roof which is the main feature of the sports campus consists of a large single span roof with a central arch truss spanning 145m long supporting secondary trusses. The arch truss rests on massive pot bearings supported on buttresses at each end for stability (On-going)

– King Saud Medical Research Centre (SR 300m (approx. £50m) – The new Centre of approximately 24,000 m2 comprises world-class research facilities for cancer, molecular biology, genetics, infectious diseases and several other medical disciplines. Inspired by a monolith, the building is placed on a concrete podium surrounded by structural steel columns supporting areas of concrete floors using long span steel beams. The roof comprises series of long span trusses which in turn carry the northern facade of the building (main entrance) which has a significant architectural cut to provide a view of the life in the science square. (On-going)

– King Saud University Football Stadium (SR 235m (approx. £40m) – The project is a state of the art FIFA compliant football stadium to be constructed as fast track design and build project with a capacity of 25000 spectators. The stadium was constructed from a combination of structural steel for the roof, cast in place concrete for the main frame with precast concrete bleachers as seating panels. (Nearing Completion)

Responsibilities include:-

– Review design calculations, shop drawings and material approval requests by ensuring compliance with design requirements, contract requirements and project specifications.

– Coordination with other engineering services as well as architectural and structural drawings and conducting on-site observations and compliance checks.

– Issue reports of any defects and/or sub-standard works observed on-site.

– Attend client meetings, progress meetings and design workshops.

– Carry out site visits to follow up on modifications or instructions implemented on-site.

• July 2011 to May 2013:
King Saud University – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Position: Senior Structural Engineer – (Client representative – Project office)

– King Saud University Girls Campus (SR 8.31 billion (approx. £1.3 billion)) – The new King Saud University Girls campus covers a built-up area of approximately 1 million m² having 70 separate structures/packages.

Responsibilities include:-

– Review designs and submittals of questionable structural elements constructed on-site by liaising with contractor and consultants to provide the most cost effective solutions.

– Ensure compliance with the project specification by the main contractor and issue reports of any defects/sub-standard works observed on-site.

– Attend progress meetings, QA/QC meetings and design workshops.

– Carry out site visits to follow up on modifications or instructions implemented on-site.

• July 06 to July 2011:
BWB Consulting Ltd – Nottingham, U.K.
Position: Senior Structural Engineer/ Project Coordinator.

Projects include but are not limited to:

– Project Green (Eon HQ – £30m) – Nottingham – Involved in the design and analysis of this 10 storey steel structure office building supported on a concrete podium at ground level with 4 underground parking levels (up-to 8m below ground level) to new Euro-code standards. One of the first projects designed to Euro-codes at BWB. Significant technical issues and challenges were resolved for the design of the basement sub- structure to a layout that avoids impacting on a listed cave system beneath the site. This was the largest pre-let office deal outside of London in 2010. Completed End of 2012

– Lark hill Retirement Village (£35m) – Nottingham – Consisted of 327 apartments and bungalows – “The largest charitable retirement project of its kind in the UK with 327 spacious apartments and bungalows for some 450 villagers” – quoted from Nottingham Topper newspaper dated 22nd April 2009.

– Oscott Retirement Village (£30m) – Birmingham– 250 spacious apartment.

– Hagley Road Retirement Village (£25m – Won tender) – Birmingham – Scheme included design, preparation of tender drawings and specifications.

– Talbot Street (£8m – Scheme Design) – Residential concrete frame building 8 storeys high supported off a transfer slab at first floor level to provide large car park area at ground level.

– Audi Wakefield (£3m) – Audi car showroom with associated workshop buildings.

Responsibilities include:-

– Provide conceptual designs through to completion on healthcare, commercial, educational and residential projects.

– Manage and supervise junior engineers and technicians to ensure required technical quality of work is maintained on all projects.

– Provide fee proposals for new projects and ensure as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and schedule.

– Carry out structural inspections and assessments of various structures.

– Attend design team meetings, client meetings and delegate tasks to other disciplines within the company through the entire duration of the project.

– Played a key role in organizing lunch seminars with specialists and manufacturers in-order to keep up to date with technical developments and CDM Regulations.

• October ‘03 to July ‘06:
Caunton Engineering Limited, Nottingham, U.K.
Position: Structural Engineer.

Responsibilities include:-

– Carry out competitive structural designs.

– Provide accurate material take-off and price estimation for tendering of steelwork structures for multi-storey office and residential buildings, hospitals, retail and distribution warehouse facilities with client follow up and negotiations after submission of quotations.

– Maximizing profit by value engineering conceptual designs and designing simple but adequate connections for ease of fabrication and erection so as to reduce overall time in processing steelwork.

– Liaising with all departments within the organisation i.e. sales, drawing office, fabrication and erection department in ensuring projects are delivered on time and within specified budgets.

Projects include but are not limited to:-

– Leeds Valley Park – 2 no. 4 storeys office buildings – 450 tonnes worth £755,000

– Wellington Road – Twin span (45m each) distribution warehouse – 800 tonnes worth £800,000

– Burton Dock Road – 4 span distribution warehouse – 1100 tonnes worth £1m.

• October to Dec 2004:
Site Experience – Leeds, U.K.
Position: Steelwork Erection Supervisor.

Involved in the supervision and monitoring the erection progress of 650tonnes of steelwork for a multi-storey office block, eight storeys high.
