Short Bio:

I am a research scientist in the field of molecular oncology. I have shown myself to be self-motivated, committed and determined in achieving a set goal as proven by my academic, research, work and social life. I started my research career in a Molecular Oncology lab at the University of Essex with Professor Elena Klenova as the group leader and my supervisor and was also part of the molecular medicine group at the same institution. Career Summary

Laboratory:

Visiting Research Fellow- University of Essex, Colchester
(20/05/2014 & ongoing)

In this academic research position, I act as an independent investigator and work in collaboration with Prof. Elena Klenova in the molecular oncology laboratory to further study the molecular pathways of five drug targets in prostate cancer development using an array of molecular biology techniques. I am also involved in generating data and write-up of papers for publication.

Graduate Laboratory Assistant/Supervisor- University of Essex, Colchester
(03/10/2010-21/07/2014)

As part of my doctoral training, I assist my supervisor and other academic staffs in the biological science department in the smooth running of practical sessions and sometimes aid in marking in order to ease their work load. In so doing, I have gained valuable experiences that can be implemented in various works of life while working under pressure and using my own initiative in problem solving. I also improved my time management skills and know what to expect as a project leader or as a member of a team working on a project as I did on several occasions. I was also involved in ordering of biological products used for experiments and in the experimental set-ups.

Laboratory assistant- London Metropolitan University, London
(14/07/2009 – 20/09/2010)

Assisting the laboratory technician in the practical class set up, assisting the students while in the lab through their experiments. During this time I mostly worked with gel electrophoresis technique, RT-PCR, tissue culture by growing cells in their respective mediums and the critical analysis of experimental data. I also played a crucial part of a team of laboratory assistants and attended weekly meetings where I had to submit a detailed summary report of the laboratory activities in the past week to the laboratory head/biomedical scientist.

Teaching:

Teaching Assistant- London Metropolitan University, London
(04/04/2007-08/07/2009)

Being diploid into surrounding secondary schools to assist the teachers and staff in the science and Maths department. Tutoring the students about to sit their GCSEs and at the same time being an ambassador of the University to encourage, share my university experiences and enlighten the students to progress to the University at some point after their High school and college education. This was a challenging role but helped develop my oral presentation skills and somewhat shaped me into the scientist I am today.

Customer Service:

Warehouse Manager/Customer Service Executive- PC World, Tottenham
(16/11/2005-10-03-2007)

A few of my roles were: assisting customers in and around the store, promoting sales of products in store, merchandising, cash handling, till operation, stock checking, warehouse management, which includes receiving and logging the daily deliveries into the system, cleanliness and tidiness of the warehouse to look presentable at all times and team leader/manager of six staffs under my supervision as they had to report to me. This role made me ambitious, confident and target driven as I had to achieve a set target each week.

Volunteering:

Fundraiser-Wesser and Partner on behalf of St. Johns Ambulance, Croydon
(24/07/2005-06/11/2005)

Door-to-door fundraising on behalf of St. Johns Ambulance. This volunteering role made me confident and greatly improved my communication skills as I was opportune to meet different kinds of people from various cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, religion, age, sex and ethnic groups. This made me aware of the various diversities and I learnt how to deal with all kinds of people equally.

Health care:
