Now ‘is the most important time’ to learn adult skills

With the recession retaining its grip on the nation, there has never been a more important time for adults to learn new skills, it has been claimed.

Employment specialist Richard Spear, writing for Wales Online, said that a new year’s resolution for many UK adults should be to learn new skills which can help to increase their chances of moving into employment.

For those who already have a job, he suggested bolstering an existing skillset in order to make the possibility of moving into a better position a reality.

“It’s easier than ever to make learning a regular part of your life. There are many other opportunities to plug into new skills, either online, in the workplace or in other convenient settings,” Mr Spear said.

Will Cookson, head of skills at Working Links, recently said that people who acquire new skills can help to both gain and sustain employment, despite the current economic climate.
