International Road Transport Union Geneva, Switzerland- Senior Systems Engineer and Head of IT Infrastructure (November 1999 – January 2012)

Reported to both CIOs (2000-2007 and 2008 -2011). Coordinated the expansion of the IRU's data centers into modern, state-of-the art server and network facilities. Oversaw and contributed to two major enterprise-wide network, storage and server hardware upgrades. Implemented WAN links and new-office server and network installations for our three branch organizations in Brussels, Moscow and Istanbul. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the global corporate equipment pool to provide users with reliable 99.999 % email, file/print, security and networking services. Management of a small but dedicated team and well-negotiated, full-service support contracts to ensure that vendors provided the most up-to-date service for the best price. Contract management and supplier maintenance was an important component of my overall responsibilities as Head of IT Infrastructure. Participated in the implementation of Switzerland's first 1 GB MAN link (partnered with Swisscom, NCR and CISCO).

Led the development and deployment of two critical business applications, IRU Academy Online and Cutewise. Responsible for the technical management, testing and support of these products and project-management interfacing between the user/customer group and the development team. Authored and published software functional specifications and enhancement requests. Extensive and frequent design meetings and discussions with users and developers and careful project and bug-fix tracking.

Participated in evolution towards modern application and hardware standards such as triple-tier web application design and infrastructures, .NET Framework development, 3DES encryption technology, various security and IDS tools, VOIP telephony, wireless LANs, hardware firewalling and VLAN network architectures, server and desktop virtualization (Hyper-V) and system monitoring projects (SCOM).

Managed, maintained and migrated IRU customer-site server installations in 72 TIR countries. Performed and managed numerous hardware and software roll-outs for these sites working with international partners (Microsoft, IBM; HP, NCR and CISCO). Responsible for the analysis, issue diagnosis, trouble-shooting and implementation of remote solutions and workarounds under sometimes challenging local conditions requiring good documentation, project management, communication and people skills. Collaborated with international and local support technicians in diverse business and administrative environments.

International Road Transport Union Geneva, Switzerland - IT Consultant (November 1995 – October 1999)

Reported to CIO. Participated in the overhaul and replacement of the IRU's existing third-party IT solution with a modern, cost-effective infrastructure and software platform. Delivered 30 upgraded installations within the UN-mandated deadline. Success greatly depended on effective collaboration with our UN mandate-authority, TIR business partners, and international suppliers. Responsible for moving the enterprise's front- and back-office systems through a major OS migration and email implementation. Led intensive migration testing in house and collaborated with external consultants to complete successful deployments and migrations. Trouble-shot and managed external server deployments in 50 + countries.

International Telecommunications Union Geneva, Switzerland - Programmer’s Assistant (April 1995 – October 1995)

Provided user support, training, development and software documentation for the International Telecommunications Union. Attached to the Telecom 95 Press Office (Information Support) before and during the Geneva-based Telecom 95 exhibition. Supported and worked with Microsoft Office, SQL and MS-Access applications, created template designs for merge documents, fax broadcasts and other information dissemination techniques. Supplied general PC hardware and software support for Press Office staff.

Digital Equipment Corporation Geneva, Switzerland - Freelance Consultant, Technical Author and Multi-lingual Support (April 1993 – March 1995)

Authored technical training and documentation for Digital Equipment Corporation’s internal and external software applications. Created French language user documentation and training for DECbank APSYS, a private-banking software application. Maintained, tested and translated the accompanying SQL user interface (French/English).
