2004 – To Date Veolia Transdev Ireland, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 - Europe's largest private passenger transport company – operator of the Luas (Light Rail Transit System)

  • Position: Process, Safety, Environment & Quality Manager
  • Part of the team responsible for the start-up phase of the Luas tram system.
  • Developed successfully the Operating procedures, the Safety, Quality and Environmental management system based on international best practice.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the above system and monitoring of same.
  • Identified the Key Performance Indicators for the Safety, Quality and Environmental practices.
  • Carrying out both internal and external Audits on an on-going basis.
  • Acting as liaison for the various organisations involved with the LUAS system i.e. Railways Safety Authority, Railway Accident Investigation Unit, Fire Brigade Service, City and County Councils and the national Police Service in relation to environmental issues, accidents and criminal investigations.
  • Carrying out Accident Investigations to support insurance claims and criminal investigation.
  • Representing Veolia Transdev Ireland in criminal court proceedings.
  • Day to day management of a team of two insubordinates.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Delivery of the license to operate the Dublin tramway by the existing railways authority: first one to be delivered to a private company in Ireland.
  • Developed operating procedure and maintenance monitoring process to start up the Luas.
  • Created a safety management system specific to Ireland to meet the requirements of the customer, local authorities and department of transport based on different practices coming from the UK, France & Sweden.
  • Successfully developed and implemented the Quality & Environmental Management systems in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations.
  • Carried out the Risk assessment of the tram operation on time and meeting budget requirements.
  • Development and deployment of the safety management system as required by the Safety Authority.
  • Attained accreditation for the introduction of new trams for passenger service from the Railway Safety Commission for the Department of transportation.
  • Carried out a full risk assessment of network extension with significant change of operation without interruption to services.
2001 – 2003 - ALSTOM, Paris - World leader in transport infrastructure, power generation and transmission – Rolling Stock Manufacturer 

2002 – 2003 - Position: Safety Consultant (for design, construction and operation of train solution) 
  • Carried out risk analysis and accreditation process for the System Department of Alstom on international projects e.g. Driverless Metro in Singapore and Lausanne Metro in Switzerland.
2001 – 2002 - Position: Safety Manager, Melbourne Train Network Project, Melbourne Australia 
  • Responsible for the management of the accreditation process for the introduction of new rolling stock into the Melbourne Train Network.
  • Development of design standard to comply with existing regulations.
  • Carried out a comprehensive ‘Risk Analysis’ on the introduction of a new train to the existing network.
  • Created a Safety case for design, manufacturing and testing activities.
  • Implemented the Test plan for the accreditation for passenger service.
  • Identified the safety requirements for the train driver operating manual.
  • Attained approval for the Safety Case from the Railways Authority in Melbourne.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the processes and procedures for the authorisation of ‘use in passenger service’: this was the first one issued in Melbourne Victoria in 30 years.
