Relevant Qualifications & Education

 M.Sc. (Electrical Engineering) with Merit from Staffordshire University
In 2010.

[Subjects Covered: Power Electronics in Electric Utility Systems; Advanced Power System Analysis; Research Methods & Project Management; Analogue Systems & Instrumentations; Power Systems Protection; Flexible AC Transmission System; Quality & Project Management for Technologist and Control Systems.

Final Year Thesis: Developing a Demonstrator for Super capacitor-where I designed and simulated a rig using power electronics to discharge a super capacitor at a constant current and calculated the internal parameters and did a research on them. My aim was to study the characteristics and operation of super capacitors, their uses and application in current market like automotive industry, alternative power sources (Wind, Solar), Electromechanical actuators, energy storage devices in power systems for quality power distribution, consumer electronics goods etc. The practical side of my project was to develop a demonstrator was to connect super capacitors in series and parallel to obtain the required current, voltage and power specifications and also perform a hybrid model of super capacitors and battery and see that they share the load equally.]

Career Summary

April’12 – Present
With Capula Limited, Stone, UK as a Systems Engineer

Key Deliverables

 Thames Water: Currently working as Commissioning Engineer on Thames Water project for replacement of RTU’s and SCADA makeover on its sites.

 Project involves replacing RTU’s with legacy PSTN protocol on sites to ADSL or GPRS communication protocol using Schneider’s Serck platform.

 Working from the master station where there is visibility of all sites, creating instances to replicate the sites and configuring additional I/O based on instrumentation on site.

 Drax Group Plc: Worked as Commissioning Engineer on Drax Power Station for Biomass Conversion Project.

 Project involving working on Schneider Unity Pro for the PLC software, Schneider Vijeo for HMI and Citect for SCADA application to control more than 10,000 I/O points.

 Working in line with the SAT documents in commissioning control cubicles, Schneider Industrial Switches, Ethernet RIO network and Drax various LANs using industrial defenders.

 Performing on-site PLC cubicles hardware tests, uploads and downloads for PLC, HMI and SCADA applications and integrating third party instruments and networks into our control systems.

 Involved in hot & cold commissioning of plant testing analog and digital inputs and outputs, device operation checks and alarms and sequence testing.

 Involved with configuring & commissioning various ABB devices like Air Circuit Breakers and Variable Frequency Drives.

 Project was divided into four different PLC control systems, all feeding data back to the master station from where they can be controlled individually or as a whole system.

 TCP/IP was mostly used but DeviceNet, ProfiBus and Modbus were other interfaces used to communicate with different instrumentation like Fire systems, Water Deluge systems, Level, pressure and temperature sensors and also with Circuit Breakers.

 The project was critically important from the point of view that it was a brownfield project running coal and producing electricity with an integration of a biomass plant without disrupting its productivity.

 The project has many challenges like maximizing commissioning activities during outages, troubleshooting PLC & SCADA to avoid any loss of data or resulting in trip conditions, server changes and maintenance and to be able to adapt the plant running conditions and implement them, track any design changes required and keep up with site documentations to name a few.

 E.ON UK: Worked as a Systems Engineer on PLC and SCADA systems for Ironbridge E.ON Power Plant.

 Project responsibilities include upgrading the current control and instrumentation from Allen Bradley PLC-5 to RS Logix 5000 and SCADA system from Control View to Factory Talk 5.0.

 Working on Advanced Plant Management System (APMS) and Graphical User Interface (GUI) and SIL requirements generated in HAZOP meetings.

 Involved in site surveys, tracing the I/O signals from existing PLC cubicles and MCC panels, producing an I/O schedule and engineering control philosophies for the plant.

 Writing documentation like Functional Spec, Detailed Design Spec and Generic Functions and working with spreadsheets and databases.

 Developed skills in Add-on instructions, writing Function Block Diagrams, analyzing old PLC codes, creating displays for SCADA systems and coding for different sequences and routes using control strategies (Flow charts and Algorithms) in line with the process control and instrumentation techniques.

 Responsibilities include reporting to project manager according to the project plan, involved in teamwork and hitting the deliverables; liaise with clients and with the hardware team.

 Involved in writing Test Specs in line with the software and hardware issued in DDS and conducting WAT, FAT &SAT. Any errors or faults recorded in PCR report.

 Working on site as commissioning engineer and following procedures for hot & cold commissioning, setting up network protocols using ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus and HART.

 Coordinating with electrical & mechanical teams on site for successful test run of the plant involving various process and instrumentation and writing procedures for them.

 Designing Modbus interface for temperature monitoring between fuel storage building and the PLC housing 150 thermocouples from store roof and used HART protocol to calibrate level sensors in bunkers.

Oct’07 – Dec’07
With Locus Technologies, Hyderabad, India as a Trainee

Key Deliverables

 Rendering assistance in the preparation of engineering drawings, documents and calculations within the time scale and in-line with relevant standards.

 Modifying all type of drawings and updating the clients about the same in relation to any changes or delays in the project.

 Providing support to the design team in Plotting, Printing and Scanning activities to ensure the smooth running of the projects in hand.
