ACADEMIC DETAILS

2010 – 2011: The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom

Course: MSc. (Research) in Advanced Mechanical Engineering with a 2:1

Modules: Reciprocating Engines, Computer Modelling and Validation, Aerodynamic Design, Sports Engineering, Condition Monitoring, Technology Strategy and Business Planning, Innovation Management

Software used: Ansys-structural analysis, Fluent-CFD analysis

Individual Thesis: Research project on “Effects of Damping Materials in Hockey Sticks and its Human Perception”

An independent research project investigating the effects of damping materials in field hockey sticks. It involved filling regular wooden and composite hockey sticks with damping materials such as rubber and foam in various particle sizes. The sticks were fitted with accelerometers at various points and a force transducer was used to create the effect of a ball hit. LMS-SCADA was used for high speed data acquisition and an experimental modal analysis was conducted. The results of the modal analysis suggested reduced levels of vibration at nodes with certain materials. These results were validated by giving these sticks to players and they were asked to rate them on different aspects of its performance. The sticks filled with rubber balls showed lowest level of sting on the player’s hands.

2006 – 2010: Visvesvaraya Technological University, India

Course: BEng. Mechanical engineering with 68% (merit)

Modules: Basic Mechanical Engineering, Internal combustion engines, Basic and Advanced Thermodynamics, Kinematics of Machines, Strength of Materials, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Project Management, Engineering Economics, Material Science and Metallurgy, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, FEA, Statistical Quality Control, TQM, Operation Research, Industrial Management

Software used: AutoCAD, Solid edge-3D modelling, Ansys, CNC control

Lab Modules: Physics, Chemistry, CAD, CAM, C Programming, Mechanical Engineering Workshop (A 2 year lab module involving Hands on Arc Welding, Lathe Operations, Gear Cutting, Filing, Casting, Hole Tapping), Material Testing, Fluid Dynamics, IC Engines Lab

Final year Group Project: “Design and Fabrication of a Model Hybrid Engine”

A group research project to design and convert a two wheeler petrol engine to hybrid. The drive of a conventional scooter was coupled with an electric motor at the centrifugal clutch plate of the engine, which enabled seamless transfer of power. The high torque low speed DC motor would propel the scooter from still to certain speed where the microcontroller switches power to the petrol engine. This helped us maximise the efficiencies of both engine. Resulting in minimal fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions. Significant personal contribution towards the team included conceptualization, workshop fabrication, design of experiment and report writing.
