EMPLOYMENT

Santander UK
October 2011 – Present
Implementation Analyst, Risk

• I take the lead in implementing risk policy changes from the conception of the requirements to the post-implementation phase for Santander Mortgages across multiple distribution channels. For example, I have been heavily involved in implementing major regulatory changes to the decisioning systems such as Mortgage Market Review changes. I was also heavily involved in implementing two government driven initiatives: the Help to Buy scheme and the New Buy scheme.

• The role involves translating requirements from the Mortgage policy team into viable, efficient solutions within the decisioning software. I prepare system specifications outlining these solutions in a clear and presentable manner, then presenting these solutions verbally to a non-technical audience.

• The last 12 months for implementation has meant working to tight pressurised deadlines with fluid requirements, often changing several times with no change in the deadline. This has required effective planning of short interim deadlines, communicating these to the affected stakeholders and working as a team to achieve these.

• I ensure that any implementation is done accurately and meticulously as the smallest mistake could have a detrimental impact on the customer.

• I working with teams internal and external to risk, answering queries and providing solutions, tailoring the response to the audience (e.g technical / non-technical).

• I run mortgage application MI in order to ensure mortgage decisioning rates are in line with seasonal trends and to validate the quality of the data being output from the system.

Robert Half International (contracted to Santander)
July 2010 – September 2010
Technical Business Consultant, Manufacturing

• I was responsible for converting Spend Requests to Purchase Orders within the business and dispatching them to Supplies within the Accounts Payable team (Purchase to Pay support). I became familiar in the use of SAP specific to Santander, whilst gaining knowledge of how purchasing and buying functions within Santander.

• I trained new members of the team and supported their work when required.

• I created procedural documentation used by other members of the team as well as answering user queries in addition to my daily workload.

SKILLS

• Analysis – I am able to derive relevant information and analyse it, with attention to detail and present the findings in a coherent manner. For example, I analyse the Santander Mortgages Decisioning system prior to any changes in order to provide a viable solution.

• Business Acumen – The business side of my degree has given me strong skills in preparing all of the major financial statements and carrying out statistical tests to aid business decision making. I can also use statistical modelling to make predictions regarding real-life situations and make appropriate recommendations. My current role has exposed me to the Risk environment within a global bank. This has given me knowledge of how market conditions and the macro environment, coupled with regulation, can impact on the products and policies offered to customers.

• Problem Solving – I have a strong background in Mathematics and programming has helped to strengthen my problem solving skills. I have learnt to persevere in trying alternative methods until the correct solution to the problem is found.

• Organisation skills – My effective time management allows me to dedicate my time to several different tasks and projects that are ongoing at the same time as well as balancing work with the social aspects of life. For example, in my final year I was able to dedicate a significant amount of time to my demanding dissertation whilst participating in various fundraising activities.

• Teamwork – At university, I was part of up to 4 individual teams working on separate projects, with each project occurring at the same time. For example, I was project manager for a successful team charged with designing and implementing a room booking system. The end product met the functional requirements of the client.

• Communication – I am able to confidently communicate and present key messages whilst appropriately adapting my style to suit the audience. For example, in my current job role I regularly explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience. I am able to lead meetings and group discussions, ensuring they stay focused throughout.
