I graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch in March 2013. Since then I have worked at one of the largest construction companies in Europe, Wayss & Freytag, based in Frankfurt, Germany. I returned home to Cape Town, South
Africa in January 2014 to take up a position as a structural engineer at Sutherland Engineers. I have had the privilage of being part of a small team, working very hands on and being given large responsibilities and projects to lead.
Career

Sutherland Engineers
I work actively as a Structural Engineer on various projects ranging from small residential houses to large scale industrial warehouses and hotel developments. Throughout these various projects I am involved in the design of a wide range of structural components such as foundations, columns, slabs, link beams and geotechnical design with most of my experience being in seismic loading and its effect on buildings.
October 2013 – January 2014
Wayss & Freytag: Frankfurt, Germany
Assisted a team of engineers working on a 3km sewerage tunnel in Glasgow, Scotland. I was involved in the formulation of the tender document and the selection and design of the tunnel boring machine.
April 2013 – September 2013
Super Yacht Cleopatra
Deckhand on board a luxury super yacht. Duties included cleaning of the boat, crew work schedule maintenance, driving of guests and owners.
2011 – 2012
Chabivin Champagne Estate
Manager. I was in charge of sales, stock take, paying of wages as well as serving and entertaining guests.
November 2010 – February 2011
Rock Resorts One Ski Hill Place
Housekeeper at a luxury 5 star ski resort in Colorado, USA. Duties involved cleaning of rooms, entertaining of guests and stock take.
