EMPLOYMENT

SYSTEMS ENGINEER

HM Forces Feb-2011 – Present

As a server engineer in the British Army, my role is to design, implement and manage various server systems in support of operations and live exercises.

I have deployed on operations and numerous deployments worldwide where I have been tasked as a detachment commander, responsible for the installation and maintenance of Microsoft based server systems

With this experience I have gained a wide knowledge on computer networking and engineering. My most recognised experience has been on operations where I was deployed as a detachment commander with the responsibility of installing, controlling and maintaining systems and software in support of codename Op Ellamy/Op Unified Protector. Being a small team of 4 people, relaying mission critical communications back to the UK, this task became very demanding but yet rewarding. As subject matter experts on the ground, we also became 1st,2nd and 3rd line support to the officers within our location.

The operation was part of an international coalition aimed at enforcing a Libyan no-fly zone to protect the Libyan civilians.

Before safely returning to the UK my task was to backup all mission critical information, so that it could be stored and re-used whenever needed. An example of this would be if evidence was needed in a court of law, we could indicate which targets the Royal Air Force had hit.

The civilian job description equivalent to this would be a network/server engineer as well as server administrator combined into one.

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

HM Forces Feb-2010 – Feb-2011

As a Systems Administrator, my task is to maintain Domain Controllers, Backup Servers, and Microsoft Exchange servers on our network. During this time I have gained an immeasurable knowledge of Virtual machines, Microsoft Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, Windows Server update services, as well as Policy and Security implementation. During this time I have designed and installed various servers to join networks in aid of Military exercises as well as NATO deployments worldwide.

Throughout peace time I trained small classes the fundamentals of networking, and how to install and maintain server systems to meet the military needs.

From my experiences in the armed forces I have gained such qualities as leadership and good communication skills.

REVENUES ADVISOR

Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Feb-2008 – Feb-2010

At the Borough Council I worked within the Council Information Centre, as a Revenues advisor. This is a varied position in which I considered took advantage of all my key skills, from excellent customer service to an approachable manner and great telephone etiquette.

My day to day tasks included covering the reception, Interviewing potential benefit claimants, and answering calls that come into the call centre to name a few. The subjects I specialised in were domestic/non-domestic council tax, environmental health, state benefits and housing solutions. To be proficient in this role I had to study benefit law and also the data protection act.

CORPORATE SECRETARY

Cyber Iberia (Global Solutions) Feb-2002 – Feb-2010

As a Corporate Secretary at Cyber Iberia i managed the members of staff in the administration department and ensured that the corporation followed all legislations and was legally protected. Cyber Iberia is a company I started with a business partner with the aim of creating Electronic Sports events with global marketing campaigns. I also attended annual events to translate and speak in fluent English to the attendees at ESports events, in addition to being interviewed by local television companies. Having such a responsibility was rewarding yet challenging. Since the company started in 2002 it now works alongside the Portuguese local government with help and support of funding. I no longer work as the corporate secretary but I do attend board meetings when I can.
