Project Manager:

The Asset Delivery team comprises Distribution and Trunk Mains Renewals within existing utilities which delivers approximately £30m/annum across the five years Asset Management Plan. The purpose is to deliver renewal of 709km of water mains across the five years Asset Management Plan in three Affinity Water Regions.

Responsibility involves:

– Mains renewal on the Affinity Water network and to manage multiple projects through its various current stages in the lifecycle in existing highways utilities
– Develop Project Execution Plan & Inspection Test Plan
– Co-ordinating with design & constructions team.

– HSE review and approval from risk management, design stage to delivery

Project : Thames Water SCADA ICA Roll Out

Civil Site Manager:

Worked within an existing major project in the Water Industry and reporting to Senior Project Management including commercial Director for the Thames Water civil works of SCADA ICA Roll Out Project. The project involved upgarding of Thames Water’s 220 sewage pumping station pipe network and various major waste water treatment works site including installing flowmeters and pressure transmitter ,deep drainage, access chambers construction . The scope of work also involved Mechanical & Electrical upgrading of the Thames Water pumping stations.

My role responsibilities included:.

– Developing Risk Assessment & Method Statement with the subcontractors and approving them prior to starting work on site. Ensure Health , Safety and Environmental standards are maintained on site , overall responsible for site safety.Carrying out SHE audits on sites.
– Develop and approve subcontractor’s organisational roles with in project, check competency. Provide support by sending to required industrial courses.Supervising subcontractors Project Manager, sub agent, section engineers on sites and mangement issues. 20-25 personnel under my supervision.
– Monitoring the temporary works, ensuring that construction adheres to the temporary works, signing-off the works in accordance with the temporary works design.
– Prepare 4 weekly programmes using Microsoft Project in conjunction with the section foreman, coordinated with overall site programme and ensuring the programme is delivered, resourcing.
– Raising and monitoring live highways street works. Ensure street work is compliant with ‘chapter 8’
– Supervising M&E installation of the Flow-meters and Multitrodes in the pumping stations.
– Maintain track of cost/commercial side of the project against budget including reconciliation of materials.
– Interface with Highways agency, Local Authority, Environmental Agency and any other third parties.
– Deal with sensitive Environmental issue with Environmental Agency and permission/approval from them as required, includes attending site meetings with required party to provide solution without affecting/disturbing the environment.
– Review RFI, NCR ,project quality and management plan. Weekly Progress report to Client , Tier 1’s and Capula Senior Management.
– Approve subcontractors timesheet and any new commercial applications. Leading meeting with subcontractors and Tier 1’s. Negotiating with all parties to agree to a viable cost affective solution. Leading weekly meeting with my project team dealing with any engineering issue, personnel issue, resolving conflict within the team.
– Ensuring civil work quality assurance is as per ISO900, ISO14001 & ISO18001. Leasing with site commissioning team to ensure site is handed over within agreed date.

Highways Senior Section Engineer:

Working on Advance works team as a Senior Section Engineer since January 2010 in the £4.5 billion M25 DBFO Project. Mentoring site engineers and responsible for co-ordinating work activities in live highways set up. Responsibilities included live highways risk management, method statement ,developing monthly programme using Primavera, resourcing work with general foreman , supervision of site engineers and site management , checking technical drawings specifications, value engineering, budget monitoring & implications, cost controlling & reporting to the commercial team, Contract NEC awareness, Health & safety inspection, developing Inspection Test Plan, developing risk assessment, daily work record , carrying out material take off & requisitions, raising materials order request and maintaining record , recording site wastage reconciliation , raising RFI (Requesting further information) to designers, raising NCR (Non-conformances) , leading weekly team meeting, checking marked up progress drawing, carrying out weekly meeting with subcontractors, completing quality record package ISO900, ISO14001 & ISO18001, dealing with clients with professionalism, inspection for all activities, overall responsible for Health Safety and Environment on site.

Section and scope of work responsible for are as follows:

-Managing Roadworks, Earthworks and associated works for 27 Highway Ponds: Supervising subcontractor Mcardles for bulk earthworks for site management.
– Supervising subcontractor Tarmac and Lafarge for the 27 pond access road construction.
– Supervising critical final phase 12 km of concrete slip forming by PJ Davidson,
– Resposible for Risk Management on site. Reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
-Supervising subcontractor SafeRoad on the 60km of live Highways fencing.
-Supervising subcontractor Discovery Drilling for 112 site ground investigation areas.
-18 Cross carriage way highways drainage tunnelling, Supervising subcontractor ATL Tunnelling.
-Landscaping and environmental aspects for all section of work, supervising subcontractor Ashlea & UPM Tillhill. Ensuring the landscaping work completed on time to hand over the section the client.
-Site Tree Clearance, Supervising subcontractor Kingwell LTD, as part of the advance work prior to start of full scale construction phase it was critical to ensure the area was available for the next phase of work.
-Supervising subcontractor Caufields for Advance Drainage works.

Temporary Works Designer and planner:

Completed one year design placement in Temporary works and planner in Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering.

Assisted in Temporary works for various projects but mainly contributed on designs for Blackfriars Station extension project. Duty included communication with site on regular basis for site requirement on receipt of Temporary works briefs. Visited site regularly to provide value engineering and technical designs when required for temporary works section of works. Supervised the work force when required on site for concrete pours or design issues which required management on site for checks. Material schedule where provided as part of the design.

Used British standard BS 5975 and various engineering software’s (Auto Cad, RMD) on regular basis to design various small schemes like:

– Shutter designs,
– Excavation support designs,
– Hoarding Design,
– Scaffolding design checks,
– Temporary column support design.
– Tunnel temporary support designs.

On various occasion worked with planning & bid winning department. Part of my development included assisting scheduling of current and future projects using Primavera programme. Attended three day course on Primavera planning programme and worked for the bid winning team for various minor projects including Cross Rail projects as part of my development. Developed detailed programme showing budget, cost and resource forecast for the M25 Chalfont bridge bypass upgrade.

Highways Earthworks Project Engineer:

Joined £4.5 billion project in pre-construction phase for Earthworks Team. Supervised in pre-construction phase of the live highways project which included site clearance and earthworks. Responsibilities included:

– risk management, programme, resource & plan work. Developing weekly programme, cost implications, planning work with supervisor & required parties.
– Developing Risk Assessment & Method Statement for subcontractor works, covering all aspect of the work including health and safety, plant inspections, etc.
– Field Inspection: Carry out field inspection to ensure Health and Safety is satisfactory, implement improvement to avoid any future Health and Safety issues, reviewing this on a regular basis for further improvements.
– Quality Inspection: On completion of site clearance I was responsible for ensuring all areas were cleared to required specification. Any modification agreed with the subcontractor and ensuring adjustment carried out without any further extra cost implications.
– Setting out for pond pre-earth works prior to construction phase. Collate relevant information and setting out as required using GPS, EDM & Dumpy level.
-Completion of Quality Record file.
-Liaise with Highways agency, Local Council, Environmental Agency and any other third parties.

Highways Graduate Engineer:

Joined as graduate civil engineer on the £290 million M1 6a-10 live highways widening project. Working for Road works and Drainage Team. Supervising Asphalt, drainage and Slip Forming Operation of Surface Water Channel, Slot Drain and Concrete Step Barrier. Involved in final phase of ‘snagging’/finishing for the project to meet completion date.

As the supervising engineer for the operations I had to ensure the following was carried out:

– Developing detailed Project Risk Assessments and Method statement prior to the construction phase.
– Developing Field Control Sheet for the operations which further highlighted project risk management on site. As part of that I developed an innovative idea of cage system to prevent and eliminate the risk of body parts being exposed while adding water through concrete wagon ‘ears’.
– Resource accordingly to ensure the tight deadline is met, included putting shifts on weekends when work output is behind schedule.
– Setting out: Prior to operation starting. Start & finish runs, check block ups, chase survey team
– Check levels: ensuring extruded structure is within Britpave specification.
– As built Drawing update: as built drawings are used as a reference to see how far the work has progressed. Updating red line and as built drawings regularly.
– Field Inspection: Carry out field inspection to ensure Health and Safety is satisfactory and how can it be improved further.
– Monitor of wastage: Concrete reconciliation on site.
-Quality Packages as per ISO900, ISO14001 & ISO18001: Complete ‘green’ files for quality department. Maintaining records of the operation for quality and inspection purposes as part of the project quality management.
– Liaise with Highways agency, Local Council, Environmental Agency and any other third parties.

Supervised sub-contractor Dynes on various occasions as part of teamwork covering engineers on leave for drainage pipe works, including completing drainage runs, check sheets, setting out and all other similar aspects of site management mentioned for the CSB operation. Supervision included completing projects ‘snagging’ list prior to project completion date as part of the handout and closeout of the work section.
