Profile

A highly reliable, diligent, self-motivated and responsible Technical Maintenance Manager with 27 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment used in both heavy and light industrial applications including heavy hydraulic systems, generators, pumps and motors as well as electrical components of distribution, operating and control/instrumentation (SCADA) systems. Regularly taken on the role of trainer as required to ensure the correct development of engineers under his charge. Highly experienced in the management and implementation of planned maintenance and condition based monitoring systems, safe systems of work (PTW, LOTO) and standardised operating procedures as well as fast, accurate fault finding and rectification under stressful conditions. Has experience in MOD Projects from inception to delivery and has acted as Technical Supervisor/Superintendent in a Royal Dockyard.

Having completed my service in the Royal Navy after 22 years, I have been employed as sole Chief Engineer on various Super-yachts globally, including a year in the service of the Qatari Royal Family across their fleet of yachts, with sole responsibility for all mechanical, electrical and electronic systems on the yachts. Project managing instigation of various winter works on three yachts and completely changing the Operating Procedure system on another to simplify the budget and maintenance flexibility. Also project managed winter refit periods to ensure readiness on time and on or under budget for the summer season.

2009 – 2010
Manager of System Controls (Hydraulics and Propulsion Controls) section

In charge of team answering directly to the Senior Engineer carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance and fault finding as well as commissioning and setting to work of machinery. Additional roles included training manager for entire department giving direct engineering and safety training and career advice to junior technicians as well as briefing senior managers on all aspects of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.

2004 – 2007
Manager of Low Voltage (450v Generation and below) section

From generation to end user distribution panels. Answering directly to the Senior Engineer. Also responsible for hydraulic steering, fuel and pollution control carrying out fault finding, alterations and setting to work of equipment after heavy maintenance. In addition I also designed and project managed a change to the equipment used and method of taking 24 LV (440v) cables onto the ship and affixing them for safety.

Having left the ship I worked as Technical Superintendent for Superintendent Fleet Maintenance (Devonport) carrying out spot inspections and planned technical surveys on machinery and equipment, giving advice where required to get the best possible use of planned down time for maintenance and manage unplanned defects in a financially responsible manner.
