I am an IBM Infrastructure Architect, in 2012 I was awarded an IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for my work at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi - for a data center deployment of a green field site (a new digital hospital – Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi), leading the towers for server hardware infrastructure (intel, pSeries and Sun servers) and virtualisation (VMware vSphere, Horizon View, vCloud). This project encompasses three sites with failover capabilities. Part of this role is to assist in the storage and backup architecture based on IBM technologies.

Sep ’11 – Jan ‘14 : Technical Solutions Infrastructure Architect at IBM Middle East (Dubai)

This role is primarily based within IBM GTS SO providing the architecture for server, storage and virtualised environments and responding to Request for Services and Proposals from the clients.

Key Projects:

 I am currently engaged as the Technical Solutions Architect for a major Telecommunications company within Saudi Arabia

o Providing infrastructure assessments and recommendations for mission critical applications focussing on storage, server, load balancing and failover technologies.

o The major mission is to serve as lead architect for requests for service, providing the technical solution for the requests from the customer which result in Project Change Requests

o Technologies covered in the role: p-series, PureFlex, Oracle M9000/5000, Wintel: ESX, Windows 2008 server, IBM storage: XIV, DS8, V7000, EMC Storage: VMAX, data domain, TSM

 Completed projects:

o As an Infrastructure Architect for a data center deployment of a green field site (a new digital hospital – Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi), leading the towers for server hardware infrastructure (intel, pSeries and Sun servers) and virtualisation (VMware vSphere, Horizon View, vCloud). This project encompasses three sites with failover capabilities. Part of this role is to assist in the storage and backup architecture based on IBM technologies.

o As an the Virtualization Architect advising a leading bank in Egypt on their Disaster Recovery strategy and implementation for their virtualized environments

o An architect advising a leading bank on the DR strategy and implementation, focussing on server virtualisation consolidation, storage replication and extending the applications services into another site. This project culminated with successful failovers and failbacks between sites

o An architect involved in the implementation of a virtualization solution providing a leading bank with virtualized environment for the intel banking applications, along with building the disaster recovery site to enable failover of services

Key Achievements:

 In 2012 I was awarded an IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for my work at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

Apr ’10 – Aug ‘11: Technical Systems Architect (Infra) at Penta Corporate Hosting Dubai and Penta Consulting Geneva

This role utilised my experience in infrastructure design and people management, employing a wide variety of technical skills: VMware vSphere and View, Wintel (Exchange 2003/2007/2010, Active Directory, TMG) and Citrix Xenapp, providing managed service facilities in Geneva and Dubai for clients from any location.

Whilst in Dubai a portion of my remit is to project manage the entire life cycle of a new client, from initial take on, network management, to integration of their bespoke applications into the infrastructure in our data centres.

I also provided technical RFP responses for tenders and advised clients on their IT infrastructure needs.

Key Achievements:

 Upgraded Active Directory domains from 2003 to 2008, this involved extensive planning and testing

 Proposed, designed and deployed Exchange 2010 into a multi-tenanted hosting environment providing coexistence with Exchange 2003, this included adding a highly available Threat Management Gateway 2010 (ISA) in the DMZ’s for external access to Webmail, Outlook Anywhere, POP, IMAP and TMG Spam filtering.

 Introduced Citrix Xenapp 6 into their existing systems, this included building a new Farm, upgrading access gateways, license servers and deploying Windows 2008 Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Services.

 Upgraded Dubai VMware to ESXi 4.1 from VMware 3.5, this included vCentre and vSphere

 Proposed, designed and implemented VMware View 4.5 for clients in Dubai.

 Implemented SCOM and Ops Manager to replace existing monitoring solution for all Microsoft products, mainly to ensure the Exchange environments were optimized for performance.

 Introduced Service Desk Manager, an ITIL based helpdesk

Aug ‘06 – Dec ‘09: Infrastructure Systems Administrator– Wintel, VMware and Messaging at FTSE (London)

A varied and challenging role, focussing on VMware, Active Directory, Windows and Messaging. It also encompassed securing budgets, writing proposals, purchasing the hardware/software leading finally to deployment.

Initially it was focussed on support which developed into a pure infrastructure role. Whilst maintaining and developing the Wintel environment, I stepped into the Desktop Team Leader role, which included staff management and the life cycle desktops, blackberries and other peripherals.

Key Achievements:

 I defined a strategy to migrate the email system to Microsoft Exchange 2007 for a multisite environment with high availability and full redundancy, this included securing the budget, ensuring the proposal was accepted, sourcing and purchasing the hardware and finally the deployment into the production environment

 Incorporated Unified Messaging Outlook Voice Access into the Exchange environment this included migrating from Cisco Unity Unified Messaging

 Designed and deployed VMware infrastructure to two global sites Hong Kong and New York including deployment of file servers in a multi site real time replication (with locking), this incorporated setting up and configuring the Lefthand (HP) SAN storage (iSCSI)

 Maintained and monitored the Exchange 2003 environment with ownership, responsibility and accountability

 Introduced email archiving into the environment

 Data migrations to new SANs for VMware, Exchange and SQL Clusters

 Windows file server migration from Linux to windows, using DFSR to deploy solution globally

 VMware upgrades for London, Hong Kong, New York and DR environments from 3 to 3.5 to 3.5.4

 Active Directory Domain maintenance and architecture, including DNS, Group Policy, DHCP and sites

 Blackberry Server design and upgrades

 Citrix deployment – increased the server farm via virtualisation of the Citrix servers

 Technical lead for ITIL certified service desk tool

 Implemented a SharePoint proof of concept to secure budget for a larger deployment

 Delivered capacity planning management reporting
