Short Bio:

I am a skilled joiner and have many years trade experience, I achieved a BSc with distinction in 2010 in Architectural Technology, since then I have instilled that knowledge by producing detailed technical building drawings for domestic clients, I have also gained employment in management positions in the insurance and retail industries both of which required my previous knowledge and experience. I am looking to make changes in my career path and look to gain employment offshore at entry level.

Experience
Area Installation Manager (Presently – Wren Living)
I am currently the installation Manager for Wren living covering 5 stores in Scotland. Wren living is a national kitchen and bedroom retailer with over 50 stores across the UK. My duties include managing the guaranteed kitchen and bedroom installations that are sold with the products. I am responsible for vetting and recruiting new installations teams, ensuring that the existing installation teams are competent to carry out the work to a high standard and to the current regulations. My role is to manage any issues during the installation process and resolve problems in a timely manner for the customer ensuring that the correct standards of workmanship are adhered to.

Self Employed (July 2012 – November 2013)
I was running my own business fitting kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms for private clients and as a sub contractor to a number of high street kitchen retailers. I have also recently managed some small retail fit out jobs for Oracle interiors on a sub contract basis for ecco shoes. I was also able to undertake general building work, including providing technical building drawings for Building Warrant and Planning approval as required for clients.

Contracts Manager  (June 2010 – July 2012)

I was employed by Aviva and worked for a company called Asprea who carry out the reinstatement work on commercial and domestic property insurance claims. My role as contract manager had many aspects, I was responsible for up to 40 projects at any given time and had to make sure that the claims are fulfilled in line with the company CDM/ health and safety procedures and in line with the delegated authority, at the forefront of the role was the customer satisfaction and building and maintaining relationships with customers and suppliers. I received training in asbestos awareness and testing and acquired a good knowledge of insurance principles in this role. I used spreadsheet software to manage my workload and also used the generic software packages provided by Asprea to log progress reports and survey information using a schedule of rates. As part of my role I had to survey and validate insurance repairs, scope unforeseen work and assess quality of work issues and ensure resolution of such issues, my role was to make sure that key decisions were in line with insurance principles and ensure that costs were kept to the indemnity limit of any given claim. My aim was to maintain customer loyalty and provide an excellent service by working closely with my colleagues and suppliers and always ensuring the customer was aware of what is happening and why. I have a detailed knowledge of current building regulations and health and safety procedures. I enjoyed my position and would like to build on my experience and progress further in my career with a more challenging technical role in the future.

Self Employed (2003 – 2010)
Architectural and joinery Services: I have produced technical drawings for extensions and conversions for the domestic sector for compliance with the Building Regulations (Scotland) Act for Planning permission and Building Warrant using the latest Auto CAD software. I also provided technical specifications and heat loss calculations to show compliance with the Building Regulations. I also provided joinery and building services on a small scale to local businesses and domestic clients.

Builder: I have ran my own construction business working on extensions, conversions and restoration projects with contract values from £50,000.00 – £300,000.00. My role as a partner in the business was to produce bills of quantities to enable us to tender for projects, Produce schedules of works submitted to both the architect and client, setting out on site, overseeing employees and sub contractors to maintain a high standard of workmanship, ordering materials required and managing the project to ensure the schedule of works closely followed to enable the project to be finished on time. This has given me some valuable management experience.

Kitchen Installations: I have worked as a sub contractor for MFI, B&Q, Magnet and some smaller independent kitchen companies. Main duties where to provide a pre-fit technical survey to ensure electrical sockets, plumbing and cabinets can be installed to the exact design of the kitchen and advise customers of best possible solutions to any foreseen problems, changing design layouts where necessary. Running a small team of tradesmen to install cabinets, make alterations to the plumbing to suit new layouts, alterations to electrics according to part p regulations, gas fitting according to corgi regulations, worktop cutting and jointing, corian work surface installations, ceramic floor and wall tiling.

My main duties were ensuring all work was carried out as per the detailed plans, running a team of contractors to ensure the company standards in plumbing, gas fitting, electrical and joinery work were adhered to, liaised with customers and suppliers.

I had a variety of roles during my period of employment with GT Morgan. I initially started as a bench joiner, making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture. I then got the opportunity to work onsite as a shopfitter working on interiors for shops, banks and offices site roles included constructing and fitting shop fronts, doorways, portions and point of sales merchandise. As my experience grew, I became site foreman running contracts worth up to £350,000. As foreman I was responsible for setting out using scaled drawings, ensuring colleagues and sub contractors fulfilled their roles and that the job would be completed on time. It was my duty to adhere to company health and safety procedures and as main contractor on most sites it was the responsibility of the site foreman to maintain the health and safety of all site occupants.

I incorporated many of the skills from wood machining and case making assembly into this role. Tasks would typically include assembly of joinery products from the machine shop, making necessary adjustments to the individual components to ensure sound assembly using a variety of woodworking hand tools and stationary woodworking equipment, laminating, veneering and wood machining. The joinery products were mainly used in the shop fitting industry from point of sales counters and cabinets etc to cosmetic sheet materials and fixings.

My duties included cutting and preparing timber and sheet materials for use in export cases. I worked from detailed technical drawings and templates, had to select the wood required, cut and prepare it to correct size, shape and finish. I worked with a variety of specialist equipment; rip saws, cross cutting equipment, thickness planner, dimension saw and over head router. Other duties involved assembly of timber and sheet materials to form export packaging to exact specifications to house large industrial machinery while in transit.
