Career Summary

I have spent all my working life in the paint industry. I have worked in the UK, Middle East, Far East and Africa.

For the last 20 years, I have been based in the Middle East, 10 years working for a major international paint company and 10 years working as an independent, freelance inspector, supervising dry dockings, new build projects and conversions for some of the larger international shipping companies and oil and gas companies.

My key skills are Surface pre-treatment, Coating application / Paint Inspection and Supervision of large painting projects. However I have gained relevant experience in many associated areas of the industry. I have experience in supervision of large work forces. I am always involved in safety as this key on all projects. Reporting, calculating paint quantities, contractor mal practices and specification approval are always part of my role. I am a Frosio Approved Level 3 inspector who has worked with many different specifications and standards including Norsok M-501 standard.

I consider myself to be a hardworking, conscientious, loyal employee. I have vast experience in dealing with people of all backgrounds, levels and nationalities. I work well under pressure and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. I consider myself to be a very professional, polite and personable person who enjoys a challenge.

Commenced employment as Senior Coating Advisor. Responsibilities include inspection of pre-treatment and coating applications to hulls, tanks, decks etc., along with offshore inspections in order to advise clients on the type of generic coating that would be most suitable for the area requiring protection.

In June 2002, promoted to Assistant Technical Service Manager, Marine Coatings. In addition to the above, responsibilities included managing a team of Paint Inspectors, organizing work and holiday rotas, assessing the work of my team, ensuring the standard and efficiency the team. Dealing with clients directly, liaising with ship superintendents and customer care issues. Overall, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day business and project completion.

Initially working as a supervisor progressing to a coating advisor within the company. Working offshore platforms throughout the North Sea and Morecambe Bay gas fields. Duties included all pre-treatment (blast/power tool cleaning) prior to the application of coating systems, as per the client’s specifications.

Based at Davy Offshore fabrication yard, responsibilities included the inspection of coatings to structural steelwork during the fabrication of the Shell Tern and Marathon Brae ‘B’ Platforms. Ensuring application of the correct coating systems were applied to the specified areas, along with reporting to the site supervisor on a daily basis.
