I am currently in full-time employment at Polymer Group Ltd. of Auckland, New Zealand (continuously since August 2005).

Having significantly expanded my knowledge and expertise in the field of protective and marine coatings, corrosion/coatings inspection, corrosion-related matters, etc., I am endeavouring to put my skills to good use and further my career in related fields.

I have nine years of experience in corrosion engineering, inspection and monitoring with strong technical background and good practical experience in applying corrosion mitigation strategies to different industries (oil/gas/petrochemical, construction, marine, dairy, etc.) Knowledge and expertise in corrosion monitoring, protective coatings, corrosion/mechanical damage assessment. I started with Polymer Group in August 2005, in the position of Sales Engineer, later adding Coatings Inspector to my portfolio after acquiring my ACA Coating Inspector Certificate, followed by NACE Level 1 and Level 2.

More recently, my position has been promoted to Product Manager – Coatings.

In the position of Product Manager, reporting to the managing director, I have been responsible for the entire Coatings Division of the company, covering Protective Coatings, Marine Coatings, and Passive Fire Protection (PFP).

 From a technical point of view, my tasks and duties include :

• Selection and specification of materials and coating systems to suit different applications, e.g. bridge corrosion protection, linings for chemical tanks, protection of on- and off-shore structures, ocean-going vessels, intumescent coating specification for cellulosic and hydrocarbon fires, etc., for applications in different industries, such as oil & gas, marine, pulp & paper, transport, dairy, and the like (these include projects for Refining NZ, Shell Todd Oil Services, Fonterra, Vector, Kiwi Rail, Technip, NZ Navy, etc.);

• Advice on surface preparation requirements and standards to ensure proper application of the coating system;

• Plan and monitor the progress of coating application projects;

• Supervision and technical service for coating projects, including regular monitoring of all stages :

o surface preparation;

o outcome of surface prep operations;

o environmental conditions;

o coating application;

o overall thicknesses;

o preparation of daily records and reports.

o etc.

• Supervision of above- and below-water coating of vessels during dry-docking operations. These include vessels of all sizes and descriptions : ocean-going ferries, mega-yachts, LPG tankers, container ships, etc. (notable vessels are M/Y “A”, LPG tanker Victoire, LPG tanker Maea, Ro-Ro Pax M/V Straitsman, Ro-Ro Pax M/V Santa Regina, Ro-Ro- Pax M/V Monte Stello, S/Y Hemisphere, M/V Liloa, S/Y Vertigo, S/Y Duality, and many others);

• Respond to technical queries from existing and potential clients;

• Assess the condition of assets and/or that of the protective system;

• Site corrosion maintenance audits;

• Assess and identify potential design and fabrication defects that could result in coating failures

• Offer corrosion mitigation advice to different industries;

• Coating failure analysis;

• Review and ensure compliance with all client quality documents regarding coating;

• Hands-on examinations, testing (destructive and NDT) of coated surfaces for defects/non-conformances;

• Forensic corrosion investigation;

• On-site corrosion monitoring;

• Maintain and coordinate the calibration of coating inspection equipment;

• etc.

 From a non-technical standpoint, I am also responsible for

• New clients;

• Purchasing;

• Stock control;

• Customer inquiries;

• etc.

As technical manager for the Tehran office of an Italian conglomerate (Texco Inc.), I was personally responsible for handling all technical and commercial aspects of turnkey projects to be implemented around the country;

these projects covered a wide range, including food industries, food processing and packaging, water desalination, heat transfer projects, etc.

 My duties included :

• representing the fifteen companies making up the Italian consortium, and their products;

• finding potentially interested parties to hold negotiations with;

• introducing the “product” while outlining benefits and advantages;

• overseeing the feasibility studies on different projects;

• liaising with the principal players on both sides, to eventually reach an agreement (joint venture in some instances and turnkey plant sale in others)
